Andrea Trinchieri cuts Ian Vougioukas from Eurobasket

Andrea Trinchieri decided to cut Ian Vougioukas from the Greek national basketball team that will participate in forthcoming Eurobasket in Slovenia. Trinchieri preferred the young Vasileios Kavvadas for the center position.

Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013 day three final results

In the last day of Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013 Bosnia Herzegovina lost from Lithuania with 73-94. Zack Wright scored 22 points and for Lithuania Linas Kleiza, Jonas Valančiūnas and Mindaugas Kuzminskas scored 14 points each.
 In the last game Greece won Italy with 79-65. For Greece all players scored with Zissis scoring 12 points and for Italy Luigi Datome scored 19 points and Marco Belinelli 12 points.
So Greece finished the tournament with three victories, Lithuania with two, Italy with one and Bosnia Herzegovina with none.

Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013 day two

Greece defeated Lithuania with 80-62 in Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013 day two.For Greece George Printezis scored 23 points and for Lithuania Mantas Kalnietis scored 13 points. Linas Kleiza scored only 7 points and Vassilis Spanoulis 12 points.On the second game Italy defeated Bosnia Herzegovina with 73-62. For Italy Andrea Cinciarini and Pietro Aradori scored 15 points each and for Bosnia Herzegovina Zack Wright scored 16 points.

PAOK signed D.J. Cooper

PAOK signed D.J. Cooper. The 22 years old point guard is an Ohio college graduate where he achieved great accomplishments. Cooper is the only player in NCAA Division I history to post at least 2,000 career points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals. In last season Cooper won the title of MAC player of the year 2013 and from 2011 till 2013 he was member of All-MAC first team. Great player for PAOK BC which can make the difference in the forthcoming season.

Olympiacos signed Antreas Christodoulou

Olympiacos continues to acquire talented and promising young Greek players. The Euroleague back to back champions signed Antreas Christodoulou. The 18 years old small forward has played for AEL in Cyprus, Aris and Mantoulidis in Greece.Christodoulou is member of the Greek U16 men national team and played six games in European Championship U16.

Greece defeated Bosnia Herzegovina with 88-71 in the first day of Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013. Top scorer for Greece was Antonis Fotsis with 13 points while Vassilis Spanoulis scored 9 points and gave 9 assists. For Bosnia Teletović and Zack Wright scored both 13 points.
At the other game Lithuania defeated Italy with 79-63 and Linas Kleiza scored 18 points.

Trinchieri cuts Dimitris Katsivelis and Kostas Vasileiadis from Eurobasket

After Vlantimir Giankovits Andrea Trinchieri cuts Dimitris Katsivelis and Kostas Vasileiadis from the Greek national team that will play in Eurobasket Slovenia.

Acropolis International Basketball Tournament 2013

The Acropolis International Basketball Tournament will take place in OAKA Athens, Greece from 27th till 29th August 2013. Besides Greece, the men national basketball teams of Italy, Lithuania and Bosnia Herzegovina will participate in the tournament.

Zisis Sarikopoulos renews with Aris BC

Zisis Sarikopoulos renewed his contract with Aris BC. The 23 years old Greek center played 22 games in regular season with Aris BC and had an average of 4.8 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game in 13.6 minutes per game.

Rethymno Aegean signed Kenny Gabriel

Rethymno Aegean (AGOR) signed Kenny Gabriel. The 24 years old American forward has played in Cyprus with AEL, in Israel with Maccabi Ashdod and in New Zealand with Taranaki MA. In USA Gabriel played for Auburn Tigers. Gabriel signed a two years contract with the team from Crete.

Panelefsiniakos signed Rob Jones

Panelefsiniakos signed Rob Jones. The 23 years old American forward played last season in Poland for two teams. He started with AZS Koszalin where he played 22 games scoring an average of 6.6 points per game and then played 20 games with Stelmet ZG scoring an average of 6.9 points per game. Jones also played 11 games in Eurocup with Stelmet ZG.

Aries Trikala signed Will Reinke

Aries Trikala BC signed the 23 years old center Will Reinke. Reinke had a great season with Oklahoma Christian University where he played 31 games scoring an average of 19.3 points per game and collecting 9.9 rebounds per game.

Linos Chrysikopoulos started last season with Pallacanestro Biella and then played for PAOK BC.
Chrysikopoulos played 14 games with PAOK in the last season and had an average of 2.3 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Vlantimir Giankovits won't play at Eurobasket 2013

Andrea Trinchieri informed Vlantimir Giankovits that he will not continue with the Greek National Basketball Team for Eurobasket 2013. The young guard will join his new team Panathinaikos in the preparation.

PBC Lukoil Academic signed Dimitris Verginis

Dimitris Verginis will continue his career in Bulgaria with PBC Lukoil Academic (ПБК „Лукойл Академик“). Verginis has a full season with Aris Thessaloniki BC with 25 games and an average of 9.1 points per game.

Panelefsiniakos signed Dimitris Arapis. The 23 years old forward played for Ilisiakos BC in the previous season and had an average of 2.5 points per game and 1.5 rebounds per game.

Stephane Lasme will lose Panathinaikos' preparation

Stephane Lasme will lose Panathinaikos' preparation due to a bone edema. Lasme will be out for almost a month. The Gabonese center won the titles of Euroleague best Defender, Greek League Best Defender and Greek League MVP.

Olympiacos signed Ioannis Papapetrou for 5 years

Olympiacos after Dimitris Gravanis signed another promising young Greek player Ioannis Papapetrou. Papapetrou signed a 5 years contract with Euroleague champions. Papapetrou, who belongs to the Texas Longhorns team, had a great tournament in the previous Under-20 Eurobasket in Estonia.

Saša Vasiljević signed with Nea Kifisia BC

Saša Vasiljević, 34 years old Serbian point guard, signed with the newly promoted Nea Kifisia BC. Vasiljević was playing for Politekhnika-Halychyna last year and he has played for Ikaros Kallitheas (now Ikaros Chalkidas), AEK and Kolossos Rodou in Greek Basketball League OPAP. Woth Politekhnika-Halychyna he had an average of 8.6 points per game and 2.9 assists per game.

France defeat Italy with 83-53 (17-21, 38-38, 59-45, 83-53) in the third and last day of Heraklion U15 men basketball Friendship Tournament. At the other game Greece lost from Spain 47-64 (11-16, 20-30, 35-44, 47-64).

Heraklion U15 men basketball tournament second day

Greece lost from Italy with 52-65 (13-20, 23-27, 37-47, 52-65) in the second day of Heraklion U15 men basketball Friendship Tournament. On the other game Spain defeat France with 75-58 (20-11, 35-26, 47-35, 75-58).
After second day Italy counts two wins, France and Spain one and Greece none.

Heraklion U15 men basketball tournament first day

Greece lost from France, 65-76 (16-29, 30-48, 49-62, 65-76), in Heraklion Friendship tournament for U15 men basketball. In the second game Italy defeat Spain with 53-62 (16-19, 26-36, 44-43, 53-62). 
So France and Italy are the two winners of the first day.

Panionios BC signed Guy-Marc Michel and Dimitris Stamatis

Panionios BC signed two players. Guy-Marc Michel, 25 years old French center, who played with KAOD in the previous season having an average of 8.3 points per game. Dimitris Stamatis is a very young and promising player. He was playing for Evriali Glyfadas in A ESKANA, local division of Athens, where he was the leading scorer of the league. Stamatis also played with Greek national team of young men in the previous Eurobasket having an average of 12.4 points per game. A player to watch in the future since Olympiacos was also interested in him.

Olympiacos agreed terms with Dimitris Agravanis

Olympiacos has agreed terms with the promising young forward Dimitris Agravanis. Agravanis is 18 years old and has already played two years for Maroussi BC and last year for Panionios BC. Agravanis is member of all Greek young men national teams and ranks 22nd in top international draft prospects of 1994 born players.

Ilisiakos BC signed Cheikh Mbodji. The 26 years old center from Senegal played last two seasons with Cincinnati Bearcats. In previous season Mbodji had an average of 5.1 points per game and 2.6 blocks per game.

Ikaros Chalkidas signed Stan Okoye

Ikaros Chalkidas signed Stan Okoye. The 22 years old American Nigerian power forward played for four years in NCAA with VMI Keydets basketball. Okoye is one of the five players that finished first in points and rebounds table in the same season in the Big South League. In last season he scored 21.9 points per game in average having improved shot accuracy and redounds.

Nea Kifisia signed Darrius Garrett. The 23 years old American graduated from Richmond College and last year he played 32 games in Switzerland for Fribourg Olympic. With Fribourg Olympic he was scoring 24.8 points in average and taking 8.1 rebounds.

KAOD signed Filip Čović

KAOD signed the 24 years old Serbian point guard Filip Čović (Филип Човић). Čović started his career in FMP Železnik's academies, then played a year in Red Star and last year in Vojvodina Srbijagas. Čović has agreed terms with Panionios in the previous season but due to Panionios ban on transfers he never made it to Greece till now that he will play in Drama for KAOD.

PAOK Thessaloniki signed Goran Vučićević, after the player participated in off season preparation with the team. The 23 years old Serbian was playing with the Mladost Cacak for the last three seasons. In the last season Vučićević had an average of 14.4 points per game.

Ilisiakos signed D.J. Stephens

Ilisiakos signed D.J. Stephens. Dalenta Jameral "D.J." Stephens. The University of Memphis graduate in the 2013 NBA Draft workout made the highest standing vertical leap and the highest running vertical leap ever recorded in the NBA, so Ilisiakos and the Greek Basketball League OPAP 2013-2014 will have the chance to enjoy this unique player. Stephens played four years for the Tigers basketball team. He is not that productive, although he improved his average points per game and shot accuracy in the last season. His high leap gives him an advantage in blocking, where he is good.

Stelios Ioannou returned to Ilisiakos after playing three years in Panionios and one in KAOD. Ioannou, 26 years old guard with a height of 2.01 meters, started his career in Ilisiakos where he played for six years.

Rethymno Aegean B.C. signed Lambros Antonopoulos for three years.
Antonopoulos is 23 years old and has a height of 1.99 meters.
Last season Antonopoulos was playing for Milonas.

Kalampokis leaves Kollosos for Rethymno

Giannis Kalampokis, 34 years old shooting guard/forward, left the Kollosos Rodou (Rhodes) for Rethymno Aegean B.C. The experienced Greek player last year had an average of 11.1 points per game. Kalampokis has played in Germany with Alba Berlin, Italy with Trevizo and in Greece for many competitive clubs like Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK and Panionios.

Nea Kifisia signed Tony Crocker

Tony Crocker, 26 American small forward, agreed terms with Nea Kifisia. Crocker is the first foreign player of the newly promoted team. Crocker graduated from Oklahoma college and then played professionally for Albacomp (Hungary),  Ferro ZNTU (Ukraine) and KTP (Finland). In Albacomp he won the title Hungarian All-Star MVP (2011). Panelefsiniakos signed Brandis Raley Ross

Panelefsiniakos announced the American guard who played last season in Estonian Tarvas.
Ross graduated from South Carolina college and then played in Svit (Slovakia), Kalev (Estonia) and Tarvas (Estonia). Last season he played 31 games with 15 points per game average.

Nikos Pappas out of the Greek national team

The head coach of the Greek National Team Andrea Trinchieri announced that Panathinaikos' player Nikos Pappas won't follow the team in Eurobasket finals. Nikos Pappas didn't seem to be happy with his participation in the team and coach Trinchieri decided that what team unity is more important.

Vassilis Xanthopoulos moves to Obradoiro

Vassilis Xanthopoulos, 29 point guard, leaves Panathinaikos Athens for Obradoiro. The Greek player will play abroad for the first time after a career in Greek Basketball League with Panathinaikos, Panellinios, Panionios, PAOK and Near East. His contract with the spanish team is for 1+1 years.

Errick McCollum sings to Panionios BC

Errick McCollum, after a good season with Apollon Patras, agreed terms with Panionios BC
McCollum is a 25 years old American guard who has played in Israel and Greece, after graduating from Goshen college in 2010. Last season he had an average of 15,1 points, 2,8 rebounds and 1,6 steals per game in 28 games with Apollon Patras.

Liakopoulos moves to Kifisia

Nikos Liakopoulos, 30 guard, will play for Kifisia after having a great season with Panelefsiniakos.
Liakopoulos was the fifth scorer of the Greek Basketball League 2012-2013, scoring in average 15.3 pointer per game with 52% accuracy in 2 points shoots. The experienced guard was also the top scorer of the Greek Second Division for 2010 and the top scorer of the Greek Third Division for 2011.

Mike Batiste rejoins Panathinaikos Athens!

Mike Batiste, 35 power forward, rejoins Panathinaikos after a year in Fenerbahçe Ülker.
Although Dimitris Giannakopoulos announced that Panathinaikos roster is complete, the addition of Batiste is more than welcomed for coach Pedoulakis and the fans of the six times Euroleague winners. 
Batiste played for Panathinaikos from 2003 till 2012 and this video created by Panathinaikos BC is compilation of his best moments in the team.

Zoumpos signs to Ilisiakos

Fotis Zoumpos, 20 years old guard, agreed with Ilisiakos for two years contract.
Zoumpos started his career at Panathinaikos Athens and continued in Peristeri. He is member of the Greek young national teams with participation in the 2009 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship and the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship.

Aris BC will participate in Domreiter Cup 2013

Aris BC from Thessaloniki will participate in Domreiter Cup 2013.
The friendly tournament will take place in Stechert Arena, third biggest arena in Bavaria, on 20-22 September. Hosting team will be Germany Basketball Champion Brose Baskets Bamberg and the other two teams will be Banvit from Turkey and Lietuvos Rytas from Lithuania. Banvit's new coach is the Greek Dimitris Itoudis so the game between the Turkish and the Greek team will have extra interest.

PAOK and Partizan will participate in Gevgelija friendly tournament

PAOK BC announced that the team will participate in Gevgelija friendly tournament. The other teams will be the hosting team Kozuv Gevgelija, KK Partizan and probably MZT Skopje. The tournament will take place between 29 August and 2 September.

Aris signs Stelios Poulianitis

Aris BC signed the young player Stelios Poulianitis. Aris is building a fresh team with young Greek players, so after renewing with Vezenkov he signed Poulianitis for four years.

Aleksandar Vezenkov renews with Aris

Aleksandar Vezenkov, best rookie for Greek Basketball League 2012-2013, renewed his contract with Aris BC for three more years. Olympiacos had tried to sign the promising young player but his final decision was to stay in Aris.

Vassilis Spanoulis on twitter

Vassilis Spanoulis, 30 guard, created his personal account on Twitter today.
His account is vassilis7span and his first tweet was in Greek with a photo from his children: "All day with them! Like quadruple training!"

Spanoulis in last season won the Euroleague with Olympiacos and also won the title of Euroleague's MVP for the third time and second year in a row.

Larry Turner in talks with Panionios

Larry Turner, 31 years old center, who had a great season with Apollon Patras is in talks with Panionios. Last season Turner had an average of 5,5 points per game and 4,9 rebounds per game in 26 games at Greek Basketball League.
Turner has played in Japan, Dominican Republic, USA, Puerto Rico and Ukraine, before playing in Greece. In 2007 Los Angeles Lakers had signed Turner as free agent.

Greek U15 Men National Team

The coach of Greek Under 15 Men National Team has announced the players who will play at Friendship Tournament (Tournoua Filias) in Heraklion Crete, at 17-19 August 2013.

Doping control for the Greek national team

The Greek national team had a scheduled doping control as requested by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK). The doping control took place at OAKA where the team is training and is the annual control which is requested by the HBF (EOK). 

Panelefsiniakos signed Melissaratos

Petros Melissaratos will play for Panelefsiniakos for the season 2013-2014, as he agreed terms with the team of Elefsina. Melissaratos, member of the Greek U20 team in the U20 Eurobasket Championship, played 22 games with Peristeri in previous season, having an average of 2.9 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game

Mouhammad Faye moves to Panelefsiniakos

Mouhammad Faye, 27 years old Senegalese forward, moves from Ikaros to Panelefsiniakos.
Faye played 26 games last season with Ikaros, having an average of 10 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Panathinaikos BC roster 2013-2014

Panathinaikos president Dimitris Giannakopoulos announced that Panathinaikos' roster for the season 2013-2014 is complete. (Update with Batiste addition, Skordilis dismiss, Apostolidis and Zack Wright addition)

Average age is 27, the youngest player is Vassilis Charalampopoulos aged 16 and oldest is Mike Batiste aged 35, followed by the captain Dimitris Diamantidis aged 33 (same age with Ramel Curry).
The American point guard Curry is the shortest with a height of 1.92m / 6ft 4in, while the tallest is the young center Georgios Diamantakos with a height of 2.14m / 7ft
Panathinaikos' roster is a mixture of six nationalities that come from four different continents. Six players are from Greece, three from USA, one from Croatia, one from Lithuania, one from Gabon and one from China.
Panathinaikos signed 6 new players, 4 Greeks, one Chinese and one American, while the team released 5 players, 4 Greeks and one American. Kostas Tsartsaris retired, Antonis Fotsis returned after a year in Olimpia Milano and Mike Batiste after a year in Turkey and Fenerbahce Ulker. Giankovits and Pappas both acquired from Panionios BC, both young promising Greek players.
Head coach Argyris Pedoulakis named as "Coach of the Year" for the Greek Basketball League for third time (2001, 2003, 2013), reaching Željko Obradović who also has won the award three times.

Sasa Borovnjak to sign with Ikaros

The 24 years old Serbian Sasa Borovnjak, will continue his career in Ikaros, after two years in Penn State Nittany Lions college. Last season he had an average of 7.4 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Ikaros Kallitheas moves Chalkida

Ikaros Kallitheas, previously named as Ikaros Neas Smyrnis and Ikaros Esperos Kallitheas, will play in Chalkida for the Greek Basketball League 2013-2014.
The team will be named Ikaros Chalkidas.

Darrin Govens to sign with Ikaros

Darrin Govens, 25 years old shooting guard, agreed with Ikaros. Darrin Govens graduated from Saint Joseph's college, played with the Reno Bighorns in NBA Development League, Thor Thorl in Iceland and Ironi K-A in Israel.

Olympiacos signed Matt Lojeski for two years


Matt Lojeski, two times MVP of the Belgian League (2009, 2013), signed with Olympiacos to replace Kostas Papanikolaou. Lojeski had a contract with Oostende but Olympiacos paid the price to break it. 
The 28 years old guard holds received Belgian nationality so will not reserve a foreigners place. His contract with Euroleague champions is for two years.

Marcus Neal signed contract with Ilisiakos

Marcus Neal, Guard 27, signed an one year contract with Ilisiakos. Neal was training with Ilisiakos' coach Dimitris Liogas, who wanted the player in his team. Neal played two games with KAOD in Greek basketball league 2012-2013 and had been tried out for a month in italian Cimberio Varese.

Panelefsiniakos signed Papamakarios

Panelefsiniakos, the team of Elesfina, signed Manolis Papamakarios. The 32 years old shooting guard played last year in Spanish Liga ACB, with San Sebastián Gipuzkoa BC, which was relegated.
The coach of Panelefsiniakos, Giorgos Skarafigas, expects from Papamakarios to be the leader of the team. Contract duration is two years.

KAOD signs Christian Polk

Christian Polk, 26 play maker, signed a contract with KAOD, the team of Drama.
Christian Polk previously played for Polpharma in Poland and in NBA Development League.
