PAOK defeats Aris for the Basketball League Greece

Aris and PAOK have played earlier in this season for the Greek Cup, where Aris eliminated PAOK. For the Basketball League second day Aris hosted PAOK who played without Mark Payne. Starting five for Aris were Bochoridis, Athinaiou, Pelekanos, Vezenkov and Charisis. Starting five for PAOK DJ Cooper, Charalampidis, Kaselakis, Tsairelis and Bogris. Charalampidis scored the first points of the game and Bochoridis replied with two points for Aris. Bogris was charged with offensive foul and then with a technical foul, which was an early foul problem for PAOK First quarter finished with score 20-17 for Aris. On 26' Pelekanos scored five points in a row, became the first player to reach 10 points with perfect stats and kept the difference for Aris in 5 points. Four points from Bochoridis made the score in the half time 38-28. Eight points difference for Aris who managed to keep Charalampidis to 7 points and DJ Cooper to 1 assist in the first half. Aris had 5/5 fastbreaks in the first half and 4 steals. Aris added four points to its difference in every quarter. In the second half PAOK started with a 11-0 and took the lead in the score. Giorgos Bogris was unstoppable in the third quarter scoring 12 points and making 2 blocks. Athinaiou with two three pointers gave the lead to Aris and DJ Cooper with one three pointer back to PAOK. Last quarter was more balanced with Aris trying to reach the score and PAOK escaping with either Bogris or Cooper. In the last two minutes both team were missing all shots, before Aris makes a 5-0 rally, taking the lead by three points 45 seconds before the end. DJ Cooper scored another three pointer in the last minutes and led the game to extra time, since Asimakopoulos missed the last shot. Another crucial three pointer by DJ Cooper for PAOK. Athinaiou started the extra time with a three pointer and Charalampidis replied. After two minutes Tsairelis scored two free throws and Bogris with a shot gave PAOK four points lead. Athinaiou scored for Aris, Tsairelis was accurate in free throws and PAOK defeated Aris by 4, 75-79. Bogris didn't make another double double but scored 21 points and got 8 rebounds. Tsairelis almost did it with 13 points and 9 rebounds. DJ Cooper served just 3 assists but scored 15 points and the crucial three pointer. Pelekanos and Athinaiou ware once more Aris' leader with 19 and 17 points.

Olympiacos wins Panathinaikos for the first day of Greek Basketball League

Olympiacos hosted (without fans) and defeated Panathinaikos for the first day of Greek Basketball League. Both teams have some injured players but Roko Leni Ukić followed the his team to SEF. Panathinaikos had won the last four games against Olympiacos, 3 games for the play offs finals and the cup final. Olympiacos' captain Vasilis Spanoulis had played for Panathinaikos and Panathinaikos' center Loukas Mavrokefalidis has played for Olympiacos. Vasilis Spanoulis and Dimitris Diamantidis score 11 points on average when they play against Panathinaikos and Olympiacos respectively. The three referees were Christos Christodoulou, Spyros Gontas and Christos Panagiotou. Mantzaris, Spanoulis, Perperoglou, Printezis and Simmons the starting five for Olympiacos. Gist, Lasme, Diamantidis, Pappas and Mačiulis the starting five for Panathinaikos. First attack for Panathinaikos, Diamantidis missed the shot, Perperoglou also missed the shot for Olympiacos. Mantzaris scored the first points for Olympiacos for this season, with a three points shot. Lasme scored the first points for Panathinaikos, after 3 minutes after the beginning. Panathinaikos played good defense for 8 minutes Olympiacos scored mainly with free throws and three points shots in the first quarter, having 2/9 two points shots. With those two field goals Olympiacos finished the first quarter leading the score by three, 16-13. First quarter finished with 3/3 fast breaks for Panathinaikos and 3/7 three points shots for Olympiacos. Panathinaikos started second quarter without scoring for 2 minutes and 20 seconds, so Olympiacos broadened the difference to 22-14, with 5/10 three points shots. Both team continued with bad shooting percentages 27% for Olympiacos and 36% for Panathinaikos in two points shots, so the second quarter was less productive for Olympiacos and the same poor for Panathinaikos. Matt Lojeski with two free throws in the last 2 seconds gave the lead to Olympiacos for the halftime and became the first player who scored 10 points. Third quarter started with Printezis scoring a three points shot and a goal-foul. Very bad offensive play by Panathinaikos who up to third quarter has 25% in free throws, 35% in two points shots and 18% in three points shots. Bad quarter was marked with a technical foul for Panathinaikos' coach Argyris Pedoulakis due to complaining. Panathinaikos scored only 9 points in third quarter so the fourth quarter started with Olympiacos leading the score by eight points. Simmons started fourth quarter with a goal-foul. Panathinaikos tried to lower the difference with three points shots which were mainly unsuccessful. Four minutes before the end Panathinaikos had already four team fouls while Olympiacos had none. Sloukas scored five consecutive points which maintained a safe difference. 60 seconds before the end Petway scored a three point shot and raised the difference to 9 points. Diamantidis turnover and unsportsmanlike foul ended the game. It was a tight game with a lot of tactics and poor shooting percentages. Both team collected 40 rebounds which and made 16 turnovers. Aris defeats PAOK for Greek Cup quarterfinals

Leonidas Kaselakis scored the first official points of PAOK BC for this season but his team lost by Aris for the Greek Cup quarterfinals with 63-71. Starting five for PAOK were DJ Cooper, Payne, Kaselakis, Tsairelis and Bogris. Starting five for Aris were Bochoridis, Athinaiou, Pelekanos, Vezenkov and Charisis. PAOK was ahead in score with 2-3 points until 17th minute when Bochoridis scored a three points shot and made the score 25-26. The halftime finished with Aris leading the score by just two points 32-34. DJ Cooper and Mark Payne were the only players who played quality basketball in the first half. In the third quarter PAOK started a small counter attack with Bogris that made the score 43-40 but Aris replied with a 6-0 rally and finished the third quarter with score 47-50. Fourth quarter didn't change much with both teams failing to score for 2.5 minutes. Aris started the season with winning and eliminating PAOK from Greek cup, great victory. Aris won PAOK for the Greek Cup after 1990's final. For Aris all ten players who played scored and for PAOK Margaritis tried but his 23 points were not enough. Olympiacos will host Panathinaikos without fans in Greek Basketball League Premiere

Olympiacos will host Panathinaikos in the first day of the Greek Basketball League OPAP 2013-2014.
Olympiacos carries a penalty from last season finals so the Euroleague champions will host Greek champions without fans.
