Wells played college basketball for the Xavier Musketeers and Maryland Terrapins. After went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft Wells penned a short contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he started his professional career in the NBA D-League with the Oklahoma City Blue. He didn't finish the season with the Oklahoma City Blue since he suffered a season-ending injury in March 2016.
