Olympiacos Signed Antonis Karagiannidis for the Next Five Years, Loaned to Promitheas for the Next Season

Antonis Karagiannidis is officially an Olympiacos player for the next five years, though he will remain on loan with Promitheas Patras for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The versatile forward/center's deal is valued at a total of €1.6 million for Olympiacos, with Promitheas receiving €500,000 as a buyout.

Contract Details and Financials

Karagiannidis's contract with Olympiacos is structured as a 3+2 year deal. He is set to earn €525,000 over the first three years. Should Olympiacos activate the options for the additional two years (extending the contract until the end of the 2030-31 season), he will receive an additional €300,000 for each of those years.

The 23-year-old had been on Olympiacos's radar for some time, and the deal between Olympiacos, Promitheas, and the player was finalized on Tuesday, June 26. He will join Olympiacos's pre-season training camp at SEF in the summer of 2026.

Career Trajectory and Breakthrough Season

Antonis Karagiannidis, born on April 13, 2002, stands at 2.06m (6'9") and primarily plays as a power forward. He is a product of PAOK's youth academy, where he signed his first professional contract in 2020 after excelling as the top shot-blocker and second-leading rebounder in the Panhellenic U18 Championship. However, he saw limited playing time with PAOK's senior team (only two games in 2020-21).

He was subsequently loaned to Doxa Lefkadas (National League 1) in 2021-22, and then to Aias Evosmou in the Elite League for the 2022-23 season. It was with Aias Evosmou that Karagiannidis truly shined, averaging 9.7 points, 7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1 steal, and 1.6 blocks in 26 minutes per game. His impressive performance led to him being selected 7th overall in the 2023 G-League Draft.

This strong showing caught the attention of Promitheas Patras, who acquired him for €2,500 just before the 2023-24 season. During that season, Karagiannidis played dual duties, appearing for Promitheas's main team in the GBL and for their affiliate, Promitheas 2014, in the National League 2, where he played a crucial role in their promotion to National League 1. He earned a monthly salary of €1,500, which later increased to €2,000.

The 2024-25 season marked his true breakout. In 18 GBL games, he averaged 6.7 points and 6.2 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 57% from two-point range, 28% from three-point range, and 55% from the free-throw line. His standout performance against Maroussi (3 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block, and strong defense in 26 minutes) and then against AEK (19 points, 10 rebounds in 27 minutes) solidified his reputation. He was also called up to the Greek National Team by coach Vassilis Spanoulis for the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers in February.
