Panathinaikos smashes Panelefsiniakos for the second day of Basketball League Greece

Panathinaikos hosted and smashed Panelefsiniakos for the second day of the Greek Basketball League. First home game for the Greek champions and the debut of the first Chinese player in Greece, Shang Ping. Both teams started the season with a defeat and they were searching for their first victory. The history between the two teams were the two games of the previous season, where Panathinaikos had two victories 95-68 and 59-77. Panathinaikos starting five were Ukić, Diamantidis, Mačiulis, Gist and Mavrokefalidis. Panelefsiniakos starting five were Papamakarios, Avramidis, Jones, Fayer and Turner. Panathinaikos took the lead early in the first quarter, although its players had 2/9 three pointers. With Panathinaikos having 7 assists and Panelefsiniakos having 11 turnovers the first quarter finished 18-8. For Panelefsiniakos Papamakarios scored 4 points in the first quarter but also made two fouls. Panelefsiniakos made only three turnovers in the second quarter but finished the half time without any points from three pointers and just one from free throws. Mavrokefalidis had 4/4 shots and was the top scorer of the first half with 9 points. Panathinaikos played tight defense allowing Panelefsiniakos scoring just 21 points in first half. In offense Panathinaikos had poor statistics with 9/19 free throws and 3/15 three pointers. Second half was an offensive and defensive monologue for Panathinaikos. Vlantimir Giankovits was scoring and the team was defending. On 34th minute Shang Ping entered the court, becoming the first Chinese player that played and scored in Greek Basketball League. Final score 74-35, with Panathinaikos breaking its defensive allowance record in Greek Basketball League. Previous record was against Peristeri where the opponent team scored 41 points. Vlantimir Giankovits made a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
