EuroCup Confirms 2025-26 Participants: Aris and Panionios Return to European Stage

The EuroCup has officially unveiled the list of teams set to compete in the 2025-26 season. Notably, Greek clubs Aris and Panionios have secured their places in the competition, marking a significant return to European basketball for the latter.

Panionios' Resurgence: A Return After 12 Years

Panionios Athens' inclusion in the 2025-26 EuroCup marks a full-circle return to the European basketball elite after a 12-year absence. This participation is a significant reward for their outstanding performance in the recent GBL season (2024-25), where they finished in an impressive 7th place upon their return to the top domestic league.

The "Blue-Reds" have completed a remarkable comeback. Having hit rock bottom just a few years ago, falling to the B' Ethniki (now National League 1), Panionios began its ascent in the 2022-23 season. Their successful campaign in the 2024-25 GBL has now paved the way for their return to European competition. The 2025-26 season represents a story of redemption for the "Historic" club, which has now officially re-established itself among the elite.

AEK lost by Nizhny but did not lose the points' difference of the third day win. Mavrokefalidis did not play but Mavroeidis had a great game and made a double double, like Berzins and Khvostov did for Nizhny.
Aris beat Unics Kazan again, like the Greek team did in Russia. Aris collected only 23 rebounds, 1 more than Parakhouski and Kaimakoglou together, but did only 6 turnovers! Langford had a lot of pressure with 12 fouls won.
PAOK lost easily by Besiktas in Thessaloniki but beat them in Turkey in over time with a winning shot by William Hatcher.

Lokomotiv Kuban beat PAOK for Eurocup third round. This was the first defeat of PAOK for Eurocup 2014-2015 which left Kuban alone in the first place of the group F. PAOK started with a 8-2 run but that was all. Kuban managed to take the lead and build a secure difference since all its players scored. Maxim Grigoryev and Krunoslav Simon had 15 points each, Derrick Brown had 14 points, Richard Hendrix had 9 rebounds and 6 points. Panionios lost by Bilbao for Eurocup Last 32. Panionios didn't have motive since the team was counting 5 defeats in 5 games for the Eurocup Last 32 round. Panionios started with a 6-0 run but Bilbao with a 13-0 and took the lead of the score. Bilbao was ahead in score by near 10 points. In the third quarter Panionios lowered the difference to 3 points but Mumbru with three pointers didn't let home team any chance. In the five minutes Panionios made a 22-8 run but couldn't win one game for the Last 32 round in Eurocup. Elimination with six defeats in six games for Panionios and Eurocup will continue without any teams from Greece.

Panionios defeated Besiktas for Eurocup

Panionios hosted and defeated Besiktas for Eurocup. Besiktas had defeated Panionios in the first game in Istanbul, Turkey but the Greek team couldn't surpass the difference in the second game. Panionios started the game better and took the lead. In the first half the Greek team didn't face troubles against Besiktas but in the third quarter Colton Iverson balanced the score. Fourth quarter started with Panionios running a 7-0 partial score before Chris Lofton scored a three pointer. The American players of Panionios, Errick McCollum, Marc Carter and Landon Milbourne scored two points each and Panionios created a safe difference of nine points four minutes before the end.

PAOK hosted Khimik Yuzhne for the fourth day of Eurocup. PAOK started the game with 5/7 three pointers, DJ Cooper 3/3 and Tsairelis 2/2, in the first quarter. For Khimik Paul Delaney did the scoring. First quarter finished with 5 points difference for PAOK. Khimik Yuzhne made an 8-0 run in the third quarter and took the lead in score with 39-42. PAOK lost by Aykon TED Ankara in Thessaloniki. This was the first defeat for PAOK for the Eurocup after two victories. PAOK was leading the score for more than 30 minutes, even by 21 points (41-20), but managed to lose the game. DJ Cooper didn't score another crucial shot in the end. For TED Ankara Vladimir Golubović had a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
