Michalis Tsairelis Joins Kolossos Rodou

Michalis Tsairelis has added another chapter to his long career in the Basket League by signing with Kolossos Rodou. The Thessaloniki-born forward-center has previously played for several Greek teams, including Aris, AEL, Trikala, PAOK, Olympiacos, Promitheas, Ifaistos, Iraklis, Peristeri, and Larisa.

Tsairelis began his career with Apollon Kalamarias and joined Aris in 2007. Throughout his career, he has played for several teams, including AEL, Aris, PAOK, Iberostar Tenerife, Olympiacos, Promitheas Patras, Ifaistos Limnou, Iraklis, Peristeri, and Larisa.

In the previous season, he played for PAOK, where he averaged 6 points and 3 rebounds in 27 games in the Basket League. In the Basketball Champions League, he averaged 8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 8 games.

Tsairelis has also represented Greece at various youth levels, participating in the European U16 Championship in 2004, the European U18 Championship in 2006, and the European U20 Championships in 2007 and 2008. In 2014, he was called up by Fotis Katsikaris to join the Greek National Team's preparation for the FIBA World Cup.

Ifaistos Limnou signed Michalis Tsairelis


Ifaistos Limnou signed Michalis Tsairelis. The 31-year-old international Greek forward/center penned a two-year contract. Tsairelis has played for Olympiacos, PAOK, Larisa, Trikala, Apollon Kalamarias, Aris, and Promitheas in Greece, and CB Canarias in Spain. In the last season with Promitheas Tsairelis averaged 5.2 points and 1.8 rebounds for the domestic league and 6.8 points and 1.5 rebounds for the Basketball Champions League.

Promitheas signed Michalis Tsairelis. The 30-year-old Greek forward played for Aris in the previous season and he was the third top player of the club in minutes played and rebounds collected at the regular season. Tsairelis has also played for Olympiacos, PAOK, Larisa, Trikala, and Apollon Kalamarias in Greece, and CB Canarias in Spain.

Olympiacos signed Michalis Tsairelis. The 26 years old Greek forward returns to Greek League after playing for half season in Spain for Iberostar Tenerife. Tsairelis had a great season with PAOK in 2013-2014 which gave him the chance to play in Spain.

Iberostar Tenerife CB Canarias signed Michalis Tsairelis. The Greek forward is 2.08m high and played 35 games with PAOK in the Basket League Greece 2013-2014 having 12.20 points and 5.11 rebounds per game. Tsairelis was named MVP of the fourth day of the previous season.

Basket League Greece 2013-2014 most improved player Giorgos Bogris. Two players of PAOK were named as the two most improved players of Basket League Greece 2013-2014, Giorgos Bogris and Michalis Tsairelis. Bogris played 25 games with PAOK and had 10.72 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in average.

Panathinaikos swept PAOK and qualified to the League Finals

Panathinaikos swept PAOK and qualified to the Basket League Greece Finals. PAOK was competitive but not as good as in the first two games that took place in Athens and Panathinaikos qualified to the finals with a sweep. Michalis Tsairelis finished the game with a double double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. DJ Cooper had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. For Panathinaikos Ramel Curry and Dimitris Diamantidis finished the game with 17 points each. Roko Leni Ukic had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

Panathinaikos beat PAOK for Greek League Play Offs semi-finals

Panathinaikos hosted and beat PAOK for Greek Basket League Play Offs semi-finals. PAOK entered the game in full speed and tried to surprise Panathinaikos and steal the victory. In the first quarter PAOK scored 32 points and for three quarters the visitors were leading the score. Panathinaikos fight in order to win the game and made 1-0 in the semi-finals series. Tight victory but a victory for Panathinaikos that will probably reverse the psychology in the second game since PAOK did its best but lost the game. Loukas Mavrokefalidis was by far the best player of the game. Mavrokefalidis scored 32 points with 11 fouls drawn, collected 10 rebounds, made one block and no turnovers. This was the first time a player of Panathinaikos scored more than 30 points in a Greek Basket League game with Jaka Lakovič being the last to did so ten years ago. Besides Mavrokefalidis, the captain Dimitris Diamantidis had 17 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. For PAOK Giorgos Bogris, DJ Cooper, Michalis Tsairelis, Kostas Charalampidis and Mark Payne scored more than 13 points each with Bogris also having 9 rebounds and 4 assists and DJ Cooper having 5 rebounds and 5 assists too.

PAOK beat Nea Kifisia for Greek League Play Offs

PAOK beat and eliminated Nea Kifisia for Greek League Play Offs round one. PAOK was leading the score in the first half but Nea Kifisia counter attacked in the second quarter and lowered the difference to 3 points, 72-75, but PAOK managed to win a very tight game. Kostas Charalampidis with 23 points, Michalis Tsairelis with 17 points and 9 rebounds were the best players for PAOK. For Nea Kifisia Nikos Liakopoulos with 13 points, 5 assists and Dimitris Tsaldaris with 14 points were the top scorers while the veteran Michalis Kakiouzis had 14 rebounds and 8 points. In the last minutes Saša Vasiljević was charged with a foul and then was charged with a technical foul. Tight game for PAOK that doubled its victories against Nea Kifisia and continued in the play offs.

Panionios beat PAOK for Greek League 23rd day

Panionios hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek Basket League 23rd day. Panionios had won PAOK in the first round game by 91-100 in Thessaloniki. Panionios was leading the score in the first half and PAOK balanced the game in the second one. In the last minutes Kostas Charalampidis scored a three pointer, Errick McCollum didn't score and the game went to extra time. In the extra time DJ Cooper was leading PAOK but he also was the crucial player that missed the final attack. In a very productive game, where the partial total score of each quarter was more than 35 points, Panionios had more rebounds and less turnovers. The two teams had the same three pointers 10/26 and the same successful field goals 22 with the home team shooting 6 more than PAOK. For Panionios Errick McCollum had 20 points, Vasilis Simtsak had 12 points, 9 rebounds and Giannis Athanasoulas had 6 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. For PAOK Kostas Charalampidis had 26 points, Mark Payne had 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, Michalis Tsairelis had 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Panelefsiniakos lost by PAOK for Greek League 19th day

Panelefsiniakos hosted PAOK for Greek Basket League 19th day. PAOK started better in the first quarter but Panelefsiniakos managed to lower the difference to 5 points in the end of the first half. With 9/23 three pointers and 9 more rebounds PAOK didn't let any chance to Panelefsiniakos. For Panelefsiniakos Larry Turner with 15 points and 4 rebounds were the best player. For PAOK Kostas Charalampidis had 19 points and DJ Cooper 6 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals!

Apollon Patras lost by PAOK for Greek League 17th day

Apollon Patras lost by PAOK for Greek Basket League 17th day. Apollon Patras needed the victory in order to avoid relegation zone and move up for the play offs. First quarter was almost equal but PAOK with a burst in the second quarter and partial score 13-28 created a secure difference. Apollon Patras counter attacked and lowered the difference so that it took the lead with score 70-67. Roland Ross missed the crucial free throws in the end, Charalampidis and Kaselakis didn't miss their free throws and PAOK won a tight and crucial game. Apollon Patras had only 7/13 free throws while PAOK had 20/24. Noticeable fact that the only Greek player who scored for Apollon Patras was its captain Nikos Argyropoulos, no other Greek scored in the game for the home team. For PAOK Kostas Charalampidis had 26 points and Michalis Tsairelis 23 points. Tsairelis also had 8 rebounds while DJ Cooper had 6 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Mark Payne was almost perfect with 3/4 field goals, 1/1 three pointer and 5/5 free throws. For Apollon Patras Demarius Bolds had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

PAOK defeated Aris for Greek League 15th day

PAOK hosted and defeated Aris for Greek Basket League 15th day. Aris started the game with 3 points but PAOK replied with a 14-0 run and made the score 16-3. First quarter finished with 4 consecutive points from Asimakopoulos and PAOK ahead by 9 points, 20-11. PAOK had 4/8 three pointers in the first quarter, while Aris had 0/4. Second quarter started with Michalis Tsairelis making it a double score for his team, 22-11. In the 15th minute Asimakopoulos scored the first three pointer for Aris and made the score 27-18. Aris approached PAOK to 7 points, 29-22, PAOK reacted and the difference went back to two digits, 34-22. Mourtos scored the second three pointer of Aris and the first half ended with Aris behind in score by 9 points. DJ Cooper had 9 points, 4 assists and Michalis Tsairelis 9 points and 3 rebounds in the first half. Aris started improved in the second half and with Mourtos was keeping the difference below 9 points. PAOK started missing three pointers and Aris started scoring them. With two consecutive three pointers Aris lowered the difference to 4 points, 39-35, and to one point, 39-38. Third quarter finished with another three pointer for Aris with Alexander Vezenkov, that made the score 43-41. In the fourth quarter both teams were nervous. Aris approached again to two points, 45-43. Tsochlas scored for PAOK but then there was a tension between the players of both teams. PAOK's bench and Lefteris Tsakaleris from Aris were charged with one technical foul each. Fans threw a firework, game was stopped and Aris' players left the court. Referees asked fans to evacuate PAOK Sports Arena in order to continue the game. After the evacuation Aris couldn't manage to follow PAOK and the last quarter gave the home team a great victory with score 56-49. Michalis Tsairelis was the top scorer of PAOK with 13 points. Giorgos Bogris collected 10 rebounds and DJ Cooper had 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

Kolossos Rodou defeated PAOK for Greek League 14th day

Kolossos Rodou hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek Basket League 14th day. PAOK was ahead by one point in the first two quarters. Tight game with low score. In the second half Kolossos Rodou made an 8-0 run and took the lead of the game. PAOK scored only 8 points in the crucial third quarter and didn't manage to change much in the last quarter. With only 2/19 three pointers and 16 turnovers PAOK had a bad game and couldn't expect more. For Kolossos Rodou Papantoniou had 15 points, Bambale Osby 14 points and 8 rebounds. For PAOK Michalis Tsairelis and Mark Payne scored 11 points each and Giorgos Dedas added 10 more. DJ Cooper had 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 points.

Ikaros Chalkidas lost from PAOK Greek League thirteenth day

Ikaros Chalkidas hosted and lost from PAOK for Greek Basket League thirteenth day. First quarter was tight, with Ikaros Chalkidas playing with three pointer and free throws and PAOK from the paint. Michalis Tsairelis had 8 points with 4/4 two pointers in the first quarter and Ivan Aska 6 points with 3/4 two pointers. PAOK dominated the second quarter and with a partial score 9-29 broadened the difference to 26 points, finishing the first half with almost double score. Τhird quarter was a balancing period with both teams. In the last quarter PAOK started with a 6-0 run but Ikaros Chalkidas replied with a 10-0 run. Ikaros Chalkidas had a perfect fourth quarter with partial score 33-17. PAOK was dominating the game for more than 30 minutes but in the end its players let Ikaros Chalkidas counter attack and lower the difference to 8 points. PAOK team was very accurate with more than 60% in all shots. For the home team Ivan Aska had 20 points and 6 rebounds, Giannis Gagaloudis 16 points and 7 rebounds and Dominique Sutton 9 points and 6 rebounds. For PAOK Michalis Tsairelis had 21 points, Mark Payne 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, DJ Cooper 8 points, 8 assists and 3 steals, and Giorgos Bogris 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Panathinaikos hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek League eleventh day. Panathinaikos didn't start good the game and PAOK finished the first quarter ahead in score. For Panathinaikos Stephane Lasme and James Gist were the scoring leaders and Dimitris Diamantidis with his 9 assists was the organizer. For PAOK DJ Cooper had 7 assists and 13 points while Michalis Tsairelis scored 15 points and collected 8 rebounds.

PAOK lost by Nizhny Novgorod for Eurocup

PAOK hosted Nizhny Novgorod for Eurocup. The Greek team had lost in the first game, after a very long and tiring trip to Russia, but lost the second game too. PAOK was leading the game only in the first quarter but the Nizhny Novgorod with a counter attack in the second quarter took the lead and kept it until the end. Semen Antonov finished the game with a double double, 14 points and 11 rebounds. For PAOK Giorgos Dedas was the top scorer of the game. PAOK didn't have a motive for the game since it has already been disqualified from the next round.

Khimik Yuzhne defeated PAOK for Eurocup ninth day

Khimik Yuzhne hosted and defeated PAOK for Eurocup ninth day. PAOK had won the first game in Thessaloniki between the two teams by 8 points, but since the Greek team lost by 12 also missed the difference advantage. The home team started better the game but PAOK counter attack in the second quarter gave the Greek team the lead in the first half. Khimik replied with its own counter attack and took back the lead in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was tight with PAOK lowering the difference to 3 points but Paul Delaney was unstoppable and with ten points in the last two minutes gave his team the victory.

PAOK defeated Alba Fehervar for Eurocup

 PAOK Thessaloniki hosted and defeated Alba Fehervar for Eurocup. PAOK defeated Alba Fehervar by one point in Hungary. First quarter was almost equal like the game in Hungary. PAOK finished the first half with 11 points difference but in the third quarter Alba Fehervar lowered it to 7 points. The fourth quarter was another tough last quarter for PAOK, with the Hungarian team approaching to 3 points one minute before the end, 65-62, and to two points 66-64 in the last seconds. PAOK took another last minute victory in a game that was controlling. DJ Cooper and Kostas Charalampidis were successful in free throws. PAOK seems tired from consecutive games and long trips but manages to win the games even by couple points in the end.
