Mark Payne signed with Champagne Chalons-Reims

After a good season with PAOK Mark Payne will continue his career in France with Champagne Chalons-Reims. Payne played 32 games with PAOK for Basket League Greece 2013-2014 and had 11.47 points and 4.31 rebounds in average per game. Payne was named MVP of the twelfth day of the League against Ilisiakos.

Panathinaikos beat PAOK for Greek League Play Offs semi-finals

Panathinaikos hosted and beat PAOK for Greek League Play Offs semi-finals. PAOK started as good as in the first game and was leading the score in the first half. In the 15th minute PAOK had a lead of 12 points, 20-32. In the first half Panathinaikos had only 1/13 three pointers and was following PAOK. In the third quarter Panathinaikos counter attacked and took the lead in score until the end of the game. In the second half Panathinaikos had 7/13 three pointers. For Panathinaikos James Gist had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals while Dimitris Diamantidis had 17 points, 4 assists and Roko Leni Ukić had 15 points and 5 assists. For PAOK DJ Cooper made a double double with 16 points, 12 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds! Kostas Charalampidis scored 17 points and  Mark Payne scored another 15 points. Panathinaikos made two tights victories against PAOK and now the third game will be held in Thessaloniki. If PAOK keeps playing in this tempo and speed we maybe see a defeat for Panathinaikos in the semi-finals after many years of clean sweeps.

PAOK beat Ikaros Chalkidas for Greek League 26th day

PAOK hosted and beat Ikaros Chalkidas for Greek Basket League 26th day. With this defeat Ikaros Chalkidas was relegated to the second division and PAOK will continue in the play offs. Anthony Roberson had 23 points, Dominique Sutton had 14 points and 19 rebounds, Ivan Aska had 18 points and 5 rebounds but those were not enough for Ikaros Chalkidas to win PAOK and avoid relegation. DJ Cooper with his 9 assists broke the record for more assists of a PAOK player in a single season. Damir Mulaomerovic had 171 assists in 2003-2004 season and DJ Cooper has 172 assists in this season. Mark Payne scored 20 points, Giorgos Bogris had 12 rebounds and Kostas Charalampidis didn't score with 7 shots attempted.

Panionios hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek Basket League 23rd day. Panionios had won PAOK in the first round game by 91-100 in Thessaloniki. Panionios was leading the score in the first half and PAOK balanced the game in the second one. In the last minutes Kostas Charalampidis scored a three pointer, Errick McCollum didn't score and the game went to extra time. In the extra time DJ Cooper was leading PAOK but he also was the crucial player that missed the final attack. In a very productive game, where the partial total score of each quarter was more than 35 points, Panionios had more rebounds and less turnovers. The two teams had the same three pointers 10/26 and the same successful field goals 22 with the home team shooting 6 more than PAOK. For Panionios Errick McCollum had 20 points, Vasilis Simtsak had 12 points, 9 rebounds and Giannis Athanasoulas had 6 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. KAOD hosted and beat PAOK for Greek Basket League 21st day. KAOD had won all three home games against PAOK in the previous three seasons and PAOK had won all four games in Thessaloniki, making it a couple where the home teams always win. KAOD was leading the score in the first half since PAOK had 1/10 three pointers and home team only 2 turnovers. PAOK improved in the second half, lowered the difference in the third quarter and balanced the game in the end so the game went to extra time. In the extra time PAOK started with a 4-0 run but KAOD replied with a 9-0 run and lead the score till the end. PAOK was really bad at three pointers with only 3/20 while KAOD had 11/26. For PAOK Vangelis Margaritis was the top scorer with 15 points (4/4 field goals, 7/7 free throws), 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Kolossos Rodou hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek Basket League 14th day. PAOK was ahead by one point in the first two quarters. Tight game with low score. In the second half Kolossos Rodou made an 8-0 run and took the lead of the game. PAOK scored only 8 points in the crucial third quarter and didn't manage to change much in the last quarter. With only 2/19 three pointers and 16 turnovers PAOK had a bad game and couldn't expect more. For Kolossos Rodou Papantoniou had 15 points, Bambale Osby 14 points and 8 rebounds. Ikaros Chalkidas lost from PAOK Greek League thirteenth day

Ikaros Chalkidas hosted and lost from PAOK for Greek Basket League thirteenth day. First quarter was tight, with Ikaros Chalkidas playing with three pointer and free throws and PAOK from the paint. Michalis Tsairelis had 8 points with 4/4 two pointers in the first quarter and Ivan Aska 6 points with 3/4 two pointers. PAOK dominated the second quarter and with a partial score 9-29 broadened the difference to 26 points, finishing the first half with almost double score. Τhird quarter was a balancing period with both teams. In the last quarter PAOK started with a 6-0 run but Ikaros Chalkidas replied with a 10-0 run. Ikaros Chalkidas had a perfect fourth quarter with partial score 33-17. PAOK was dominating the game for more than 30 minutes but in the end its players let Ikaros Chalkidas counter attack and lower the difference to 8 points. PAOK team was very accurate with more than 60% in all shots. For the home team Ivan Aska had 20 points and 6 rebounds, Giannis Gagaloudis 16 points and 7 rebounds and Dominique Sutton 9 points and 6 rebounds. Mark Payne named MVP of twelfth day

Mark Payne named MVP of Greek Basket League twelfth day. Payne scored 22 points, collected 9 rebounds, served 2 assists and made no turnover in 24 minutes. This is the third time a player of PAOK is named MVP of the day, after Michalis Tsairelis on fourth day and DJ Cooper on eighth day. For those who love statistics PAOK has the MVP player of the day every four days,  4,8,12.

PAOK defeated Ilisiakos for Greek League twelfth day

PAOK hosted and defeated Ilisiakos for Greek League twelfth day. Ilisiakos started the game with good tempo and led the score by 15-17 and was following PAOK in the first half. In the second half Ilisiakos scored 7 points in the third and 10 in the fourth quarter and lost the game with a broad difference. PAOK collected 51 rebounds in total and made only 9 turnovers. DJ Cooper finished the game with 10 assists in 23 minutes. Mark Payne scored 22 points and collected 9 rebounds, missing a double double. PAOK used all its 12 players and all players scored at least 2 points, great team play. Ilisiakos also used all of the players available and all of them but one, Fakopoulidis, scored.

Budućnost Voli Podgorica hosted PAOK for Eurocup. In the first game PAOK defeated Budućnost Voli with a three pointer buzzer beater by DJ Cooper. PAOK has 200 fans to support the team.

 PAOK started better the game and took the lead from the first quarter. The game was interrupted in the 11th minute because home fans threw fireworks at PAOK's bench. This interruption helped Budućnost to balance the game and the half time finished almost equal. The third quarter was crucial when PAOK created again a difference of 10 points, that kept until the end. In the last minute Budućnost approached PAOK to four points but DJ Cooper scored another crucial three pointer and Charalampidis didn't miss the free throws, so PAOK won the game. Jeleel Akindele had 10 rebounds but only 8 points. Giorgos Bogris scored 17 points and Kostas Charalampidis 21 points. This was the fourth victory for PAOK for the Eurocup.

PAOK hosted Khimik Yuzhne for the fourth day of Eurocup. PAOK started the game with 5/7 three pointers, DJ Cooper 3/3 and Tsairelis 2/2, in the first quarter. For Khimik Paul Delaney did the scoring. First quarter finished with 5 points difference for PAOK. Khimik Yuzhne made an 8-0 run in the third quarter and took the lead in score with 39-42. DJ Cooper with a three pointer and an assist to Bogris gave the lead back to their team. PAOK counter attack in the end of the third quarter gave its broadest difference of 8 points.

PAOK defeated Apollon Patras for Greek Basketball League fourth day

PAOK defeated Apollon Patras for the fourth day of the Greek Basketball League. This was the fourth victory in a row for PAOK who remained alone in the top of the League Table without defeat. PAOK started the game with an 8-2 run but the first quarter finished with 14-12. Apollon Patras was following PAOK until the end with less than 8 points difference and took the lead in 35th minute. Petrović with two three pointers gave his team the lead twice in the fourth quarter but Tsairelis, Tsochlas and Charalampidis scored in the end and gave their team another victory. Tsairelis scored 19 points, Payne 17 points and Bogris didn't make another double double since he collected 10 rebounds but scored 8 points. Demarius Bolds scored 27 points, collected 7 rebounds and won 9 fouls.

Rethymno Aegean lost by PAOK for the third day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and lost by PAOK for the third day of Greek Basketball League 2013-2014. Both teams started the season with two victories and were leading the league table. PAOK flight from Hungary, where the team played for Eurocup, directly to Rethymno. Apollon Tsochlas played against his previous team. PAOK started the game with a four points and finished the first quarter with 12-17. Second quarter started the same but 5 minutes before the half time Rethymno Aegean ran a 10-0 rally and took the lead by 4. DJ Cooper three pointers made the first half score 35-33 for Rethymno. In the second half PAOK ran an 8-0 rally and took the lead again, until the end. With consecutive three pointers from DJ Cooper, Mark Payne and Charalampidis PAOK was ahead by 13 points. Final score was 64-81 for PAOK as a result to its offensive play in the last two quarters. Kenny Gabriel made his third double double (10 points, 11 rebounds) in a row, even if his team lost, and now we have to search for the double double records.

Alba Fehervar lost by PAOK for the second day of Eurocup

Alba Fehervar hosted and lost by PAOK for the second day of Eurocup by one point 88-89. Alba Fehervar lost in first day by Nizhny Novgorod with 82 - 64, while PAOK won Buducnost Voli Podgorica with 85-84. PAOK doubled his last minute and by one point victories in Eurocup. Kemp scored 26 points but missed the last shot which let PAOK win the game by one.

Aris defeats PAOK for Greek Cup quarterfinals

Leonidas Kaselakis scored the first official points of PAOK BC for this season but his team lost by Aris for the Greek Cup quarterfinals with 63-71. Starting five for PAOK were DJ Cooper, Payne, Kaselakis, Tsairelis and Bogris. Starting five for Aris were Bochoridis, Athinaiou, Pelekanos, Vezenkov and Charisis. PAOK was ahead in score with 2-3 points until 17th minute when Bochoridis scored a three points shot and made the score 25-26. The halftime finished with Aris leading the score by just two points 32-34. DJ Cooper and Mark Payne were the only players who played quality basketball in the first half. In the third quarter PAOK started a small counter attack with Bogris that made the score 43-40 but Aris replied with a 6-0 rally and finished the third quarter with score 47-50. Fourth quarter didn't change much with both teams failing to score for 2.5 minutes. Aris started the season with winning and eliminating PAOK from Greek cup, great victory. Aris won PAOK for the Greek Cup after 1990's final. For Aris all ten players who played scored and for PAOK Margaritis tried but his 23 points were not enough. PAOK wins Aries Trikala with 76-74 in friendly game. This was the second victory for PAOK in friendly games against Aries Trikala. Quarters' scores were 12-15, 38-31, 46-52, 76-74. Charalampidis was for one more time the leading scorer for PAOK and he gave his team the victory with two free throws in the last minute.Patrick Ewing Junior in his first game with his new team Aries Trikala scored 16 points.

PAOK BC defeated Aries Trikala in friendly game with 80-70. DJ Cooper and Mark Payne played for the first time with their new team and did a great job. Payne led the score for PAOK with 19 points and DJ Cooper scored 11 points. For Aries Trikala Evans scored 19 points, Will Reinke 13 points and Khalid Mutakabbir 10 points. Quarters' scores were 23-10, 44-32, 63-50, 80-70.

Greek journalists seem to have problems with the spelling of the new Aries Trikala player Khalid Mutakabbir since most news sites refer to him as Mutabakir.
