Panathinaikos defeated Aris with 90-53 in Greek Cup Final 2014

Panathinaikos smashed Aris with 90-53 for the Greek Cup Final 2014. Aris was competitive only in the first half. First half finished with equal score for the two teams but in the second half Panathinaikos made a 15-0 run and cleared the game. Ramel Curry was the top scorer for Panathinaikos with 17 points but Jonas Mačiulis with his three pointers and Dimitris Diamantidis with his guidance helped their team win the game in the third quarter. For Aris Lefteris Bochoridis was the top scorer with Giannis Athinaiou, Alexander Vezenkov and Michalis Pelekanos helping in score mainly in the first half. This was the fiftteenth and third consecutive Greek Cup for Panathinaikos. Aris remains with 8 Greek Cup wins.

Panathinaikos defeated Olympiacos for Greek cup semi-finals

Panathinaikos hosted and defeated Olympiacos for Greek cup semi-finals. Both team had injured players missing the game. Panathinaikos was the home team and and the cup winner, while Olympiacos had a 27-0 victory run in this season. Panathinaikos started the game with score from the paint while Olympiacos was better at three pointers. Stratos Perperoglou finished the first quarter with two committed fouls, a crucial player for the game. Nikos Pappas was playing after his injury and scored 5 points in the first quarter, giving help to Diamantidis in controlling the ball. In the second quarter Olympiacos scored two three pointers and ran a partial score 1-11, taking the lead with 21-24. Ramel Curry scored the first three pointer for Panathinaikos on 18th minute, making the score 31-29. Panathinaikos had the rebounds and two pointers in the first half, while Olympiacos had the assists and the three pointers. In the last 30 seconds of the first half Olympiacos scored 5 points and the first half finished with scored 35-34. Second half started nervously with the two teams not scoring in the first 3 minutes. Then Dimitris Diamantidis scored his first three pointer. Stratos Perperoglou scored the first points for Olympiacos in the second half after almost 6 minutes. At the end of third quarter there were three players with 3 committed fouls, Cedric Simmons, Stratos Perperoglou and Jonas Mačiulis. Each team scored only 10 points in the third quarter and the last quarter started with almost equal score. In the fourth quarter the teams were not that nervous and the scoring lead was changing sides minute by minute. Bryant Dunston was injured 4 minutes before the end but the injury wasn't serious. Panathinaikos scored 5 points in a row and 4 minutes before the end created a difference of 6 points, 59-53. Panathinaikos with Jonas Mačiulis and Mike Bramos kept Panathinaikos in the lead and gave their team a great victory. This was the first defeat for Olympiacos in this season, after a 27-0 victories run. For Olympiacos only Sloukas scored more than 10 points, while for Panathinaikos Bramos scored 12 points, Mačiulis 11 points and Diamantidis 10 points. Panathinaikos qualified for the Greek Cup final where it will defend it's crown. Panathinaikos will play against Aris in the Greek Cup final that will take place in Heraklion, Crete.

Aris defeated Panionios for Greek cup semifinals

Aris hosted and defeated Panionios for Greek cup semifinals, in a knock out game. Aris started the game with a 21-4 run. In 8th minute Panionios' coach was charged with a technical foul due and the first half finished with score 34-11. Aris kept the difference at high levels and the first half finished with the home team leading the score by 20 points. In the third quarter Panionios tried to counter attack after the difference reached 21 points. Charisis made an unsportsmanlike foul, Uros Duvnjak scored a three pointer and Michalis Pelekanos made an offensive foul. The difference lowered to 11 points and the game was starting to be tight. Aris was charged with a second unsportsmanlike foul in the third quarter, Errick McCollum scored the two free throws and the difference was just six points. Aleksandar Vezenkov scored three free throws, Hunt scored a three pointer and Symtsak made an offensive foul in Aris' small counter attack. Aris controlled the game and although it lost the 20 points difference, it manage to keep it steady above 10 points. Aris won Panionios with 88-79 in a game that dominated from the first minute. Aris qualified to the cup final, first time after the cup final of 2005, and will play against the winner of the second semi-final between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos.

Olympiacos wins Ilisiakos for Greek cup quarterfinals

Olympiacos played its first official game in Greece, after two victories for the Intercontinental Cup in Brazil. Ilisiakos have eliminated Agia Paraskevi, Ikaros Chalkidas and Apollon Patras for the Greek Cup.Vassilis Spanoulis missed the last training before the game due to a flu and wasn't included in the 12 players for Olympiacos in this match. Besides Spanoulis, Mavroeidis, Begić, Law and Christodoulou were not available for Olympiacos in this game. For Ilisiakos Chatzis and DJ Stephens were not available, which was a great disadvantage for the team. The game started with a delay since the General Secretary of Sports have not allowed spectators in the pitch, although Ilisiakos has only allowed season card holders to enter. Starting five for Olympiacos were Mantzaris, Perperoglou, Lojeski, Petway and Dunston. Petway scored the first points of Olympiacos in Greece for the new season. Dunston and Petway dominated the court in the first quarter with impressive dunks who contributed to the score (12-33) and the show. Ilisiakos seemed unable to follow the score without Chatzis and Stephens, so Olympiacos' coach gave the chance to young players like Agravanis to play. First half ended with 29-47. Olympiacos tried a lot of young players like Katsivelis and Papapetrou in the third quarter but the difference remained around 20 points. Final score in the game was 54-85 with Olympiacos being the fourth team qualifying in the semifinals of the Greek Cup. Quarters' scores: 12-33, 29-47, 43-62, 54-85

Aris defeats PAOK for Greek Cup quarterfinals

Leonidas Kaselakis scored the first official points of PAOK BC for this season but his team lost by Aris for the Greek Cup quarterfinals with 63-71. Starting five for PAOK were DJ Cooper, Payne, Kaselakis, Tsairelis and Bogris. Starting five for Aris were Bochoridis, Athinaiou, Pelekanos, Vezenkov and Charisis. PAOK was ahead in score with 2-3 points until 17th minute when Bochoridis scored a three points shot and made the score 25-26. The halftime finished with Aris leading the score by just two points 32-34. DJ Cooper and Mark Payne were the only players who played quality basketball in the first half. In the third quarter PAOK started a small counter attack with Bogris that made the score 43-40 but Aris replied with a 6-0 rally and finished the third quarter with score 47-50. Fourth quarter didn't change much with both teams failing to score for 2.5 minutes. Aris started the season with winning and eliminating PAOK from Greek cup, great victory. Aris won PAOK for the Greek Cup after 1990's final. For Aris all ten players who played scored and for PAOK Margaritis tried but his 23 points were not enough. Panionios wins Kolossos Rodou for Greek Cup quarterfinals

Panionios wins Kolossos Rodou with 82-65 for the Greek Cup quarterfinals. First quarter finished with Panionios leading the score by 10 points (27-17) and by the halftime Panionios has increased the difference to 17 points (48-31). Panionios controlled the game and eliminated Kolossos Rodou from the Greek cup.
A productive game for Panionios foreign players McCollum, Duvnjak and Milbourne that scored 56 points.

Panathinaikos wins Rethymno Aegean for Greek cup quarterfinals

 Panathinaikos had won Rethymno Aegean a week ago for Petros Oikonomakis friendly tournament, and doubled his victories against AGOR in the first official game for the season. Panathinaikos eliminated Rethymno Aegean by winning it with 83-52 and qualified to the semi-finals of the Greek Cup.
Panathinaikos starting five were Pappas, Diamantidis, Mačiulis, Gist and Lasme. Rethymno Aegean started with a 4-0 score but then Panathinaikos' captain Diamantidis led the team to 8-22 before being replaced by Vladimir Giankovits. Then Rethymno managed to close the difference in first quarter at 13-24. Second quarter started with Panathinaikos ruling the court which led to double score 15-30 but finished with Rethymno Aegean counter attacking and score 32-40. In the third quarter it was Curry's time to score and keep the score in distance which at the end was 41-64. Fourth quarter was not different and the final score 52-83 was result of a dunk from Vladimir Giaknovits. Quarters' scores were 13-24, 32-40, 41-64, 52-83.

Greek cup quarterfinals schedule (updated with scores)

Panathinaikos defeated Rethymno in the recent Petros Oikonomakis tournament, but this will be the first official game for the Greek champions. PAOK versus Aris will be the highlight of the cup's quarterfinals with PAOK to have a light advantage, like Panionios against Kolossos Rodou. Olympiacos will have no problem against Ilisiakos in the first game for the season in Greece after the Euroleague back to back champions won the Intercontinental Cup.

Kolossos Rodou wins AE Nea Kifisia for the Greek cup

Kolossos Rodou wins AE Nea Kifisia for the Greek cup with 71-69. Stefanidis scored a three points shot 2 seconds before the end and Nea Kifisia succeed in one free throw with Tsaldaris 0.8 seconds before the end. Kolossos Rodou continues in the cup and will play against Panionios. Quarters' scores were 19-18, 42-33, 56-48, 71-69.

Greek basketball cup first round results

The first round of the Greek Basketball Cup 2013-2014 completed with two surprises, the elimination of AEK BC from Korivos and Iraklis BC from OFI Crete. AEK BC had won the cup 3 times and Iraklis BC has finished second 3 times, both great teams of the previous decade and century but the future is not bright.
