Aris Signs Giorgos Gkiouzelis

Aris BC has announced the signing of 29-year-old power forward Giorgos Gkiouzelis for the 2024-25 season. The experienced player joins Aris after spending the previous season with Apollon Patras.

Professional Career:

Giorgos Gkiouzelis (or Georgios Giouzelis), born on October 13, 1995, is a 2.04 m (6'8") tall, 98 kg (215 lb.) power forward. He began his basketball journey in the youth system of Panathinaikos, one of Greece's basketball powerhouses.

From 2012 to 2017, Gkiouzelis played in various lower-level leagues in Greece before making a significant move to Koroivos Amaliadas in the Greek 2nd division for the 2018-19 season. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds in 29 games.

In the following season, he joined Diagoras Dryopideon, where he averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. His performance caught the attention of Iraklis where he played in the 2020-21 season, albeit with limited minutes, averaging 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 9 games.

For the 2021-22 season, Gkiouzelis signed with Ionikos Nikaias, where he saw more playing time, averaging 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23 games. He moved to Peristeri in 2022, but his stint was short-lived, and he subsequently transferred to Karditsa mid-season. In 14 games with Karditsa, he averaged 5.1 points and 2.8 rebounds.

In June 2023, Gkiouzelis joined Apollon Patras, where he played 27 games, averaging 4.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. On June 23, 2024, Gkiouzelis made the move to Aris, where he is expected to be a valuable addition to their roster.

Iraklis (2020-21): Averaged 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds.

Peristeri and Karditsa (2022-23): Averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 rebounds with Karditsa.
Apollon Patras (2023-24): Averaged 4.4 points, 2.3 rebounds.

Kymi signed Giorgos Tsiaras

Kymi signed Giorgos Tsiaras. The 36-year-old Greek forward started his professional career with AEK in 2001 and has also played for Aris, Trikala, Olympia Larissas, PAOK, Panionios, Ikaros Kallitheas, and Apollon Patras in Greece. Tsiaras has also played abroad, in Czech Republic for ČEZ Nymburk, in Romania for CS Gaz Metan Mediaş, and in Spain for Club Melilla Baloncesto. In the last two years Tsiaras played for Apollon Patras, with the last season playing in A2 League Greece.

Holargos signed Toarlyn Fitzpatrick

Holargos signed Toarlyn Fitzpatrick. The 29-year-old American forward started his professional career in Belgium for Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek where he averaged 7.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. In 2014 Fitzpatrick joined Apollon Patras where he averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 26 games. In the next season Fitzpatrick moved to Germany for  Tigers Tübingen and in 2016 he returned to Greece for Rethymno Cretan Kings. With Rethymno, he averaged 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. After Rethymno Fitzpatrick moved to Japan where he played for Akita Northern Happinets and Cyberdyne Ibaraki Robots.

Lavrio signed Sarantis Mastrogiannopoulos

Lavrio signed Sarantis Mastrogiannopoulos. The 21-year-old Greek guard started his professional career with Apollon Patras in 2014. Mastrogiannopoulos played three seasons with Apollon and in the last season, he averaged 12 points and 3.2 rebounds in 31 games for the A2 League.

Faros Larisas signed Costis Gontikas


Faros Larisas signed Costis Gontikas. The 24-year-old Greek center graduated from New York in 2016 and after going undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft he started his professional career with Panathinaikos. With Panathinaikos, Gontikas played only three games for the Basket League Greece 2016-2017. In the previous season, he played in A2 League with Apollon Patras, averaging 12.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in 33 games. Gontikas was a member of the Greece U20 national team.

Promitheas signed Tony Meier


Promitheas signed Tony Meier. The 28-year-old American forward graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he played for Milwaukee Panthers. Meier started his professional career in Australia for Frankston Blues and has also played in Poland for Polpharma Starogard Gdanski, and Portugal for Vitória de Guimarães. In 2015 Meier joined Apollon Patras, where he was the top scorer of the team averaging 11.31 points per game. After a break in the Czech Republic for CEZ Nymburk Meier returned to Greece for Lavrio being the second top scorer of the team averaging 11.54 points per game.

Koroivos Amaliadas sign Travis Cohn. The 28-year-old American guard started the season in Israel at Hapoel Afula, where in 10 games he averaged 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. Cohn has played professionalyin Italy with Andrea Costa Imola, in Cyprus with Enosis, in Hungary with JP-Auto Jaszbereny KSE, in Slovenia with Helios and Elektra, in the NBA G League with Sioux Falls Skyforce, in Iceland with Snaefell, in the D-League with Springfield A., and in Greece with Apollon Patras.

Faros Larisa sign Kevin Galloway

Faros Larisa sign Kevin Galloway. The 29-year-old American Iraqi guard graduated from Texas Southern and went undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft. Galloway has played professionally in Japan for Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix and Osaka Evessa where he averaged 12.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. In 2014 Galloway signed with Apollon Patras of Basket League Greece where he played 25 games and averaged 7.64 points and 3.72 assists per game. He continued his career in Lebanon for Homenetmen Beirut B.C. and in Qatar for Al Gharafa Doha.

Panionios sign Tony Woods. The 27-year-old American center returns to Panionios where he played in 2014 averaging 7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Woods has also played for APOEL in Cyprus, in Romania for CS Energia Rovinari, in Greece for Apollon Patras, Kifisia, and Doxa Lefkadas, and most recently in the Dominican Republic for Soles de Santo Domingo and in Bulgaria for Rilski.

PAOK sign Kevin Dillard. The 27 years old American guard joined Apollon Patras in the previous season and had a good season until he was find positive in a doping control. In 2017 Dillard played in Belgium for Antwerp Giants, in Turkey for Pınar Karşıyaka, in New Zealand for the New Zealand Breakers, and in Israel for Maccabi Ashdod.

Lavrio sign Dimitris Verginis


Lavrio sign Dimitris Verginis. The 30 years old Greek guard penned an one year contract with Lavrio. Verginis started his professional career with PAOK in 2008. Verginis has played for Panathinaikos, Aris, Panionios, and Apollon Patras in Greece, for Bilbao in Spain and for Lukoil Academic in Bulgaria. In the previous season with Apollon Patras Verginis averaged 7.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

Lavrio sign Giannis Kouzeloglou

Lavrio sign Giannis Kouzeloglou. The 22 years old Greek center penned a two years contract. Kouzeloglou started his career with Mantoulidis and Makedonikos, before moving to Serbia for Partizan Belgrade. In 2015 Kouzeloglou moved to Apollon Patras and in the previous season he averaged 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 21 games for the Basket League Greece. Kouzeloglou was a member of the U20 national team of Greece.

Doxa Lefkadas sign Tony Woods

Doxa Lefkadas sign Tony Woods*. The 26 years old American center joined the newly promoted team of Lefkada and will continue to play basketball in Greece. Woods signed with Kifisia in 2013 after a season that revived his career, averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 26 games, he moved to Panionios. In August 2015 Woods joined Apollon Patras, and was the third top scorer of his team, averaging 8.54 points per game.

*Doxa Lefkadas canceled the contract offer, due to Woods not passing his medical tests (knee problem).

Machites Doxa Pefkon sign Karamo Jawara

Machites Doxa Pefkon sign Karamo Jawara. The 25 years old Norwegian forward graduated from North Carolina Central, and has played professionally in Romania with U Banca Transilvania Cluj and in Greece with Apollon Patras.

Korivos Amaliadas sign Andreja Milutinović

Korivos Amaliadas sign Andreja Milutinović. The 26 years old forward started his career with FMP Železnik and after three years he moved to Red Star (KK Crvena Zvezda). In 2013-2014 Milutinović moved to Spain for Força Lleida Club Esportiu but finished the season in Greece for Apollon Patras. Milutinović played 15 games with Apollon, averaging 7.3 points and 2 rebounds per game. In the last two season he played in Serbia for Partizan, where he averaged 4.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

Kymi signed Muhammad El-Amin

Kymi signed Muhammad El-Amin. This will be the third Greek team for the 29 years old American. El-Amin's first Greek team was Apollon Patras in 2014, when he was called to replace Travis Cohn. El-Amin had a great season with Apollon finishing fifth in points scored and third in fouls won in the first round of Basket League 2014-2015. After Apollon he moved to Italy for Reggia JuveCaserta but he returned to Greece in middle season joining the team of Kifisia. When he finished the season in Greece El-Amin moved to Qatar for Al Sadd Doha.

Nikos Vetoulas is Promitheas new coach

Nikos Vetoulas is Promitheas' new coach. The newly promoted team of Promitheas announced the agreement between the team and the coach Nikos Vetoulas. The 42 years old Greek started his coaching career as an assistant coach for Aris in 2008. In 2010 Vetoulas became the head coach of Apollon Patras, the team where he started his career as a player too, and he remained the head coach of Apollon until 2015. In May 2016 Vetoulas moved to Switzerland for SAM Basket Massagno.

Diamantakos back to Kifisia cannot move to Apollon

Kifisia had agreed and Diamantakos moved to Apollon Patras but the transfer seems to stuck in transfers' rules. In Basket League Greece one team can give or accept only one player from another league team and Kifisia has already given Mavroeidis to AEK. The deal is stuck although Kifisia does not count on Diamantakos and Apollon is in need of the player.

Apollon Patras signed Giannis Kouzeloglou. The 20 years old Greek forward will replace Vasilis Niforas who is injured and will miss the whole season. Kouzeloglou started his career in Mantoulidis and in the previous season he played in Serbia for Partizan. He is a member of the Greece U20 national team.
