Panionios sign Tony Woods

Panionios sign Tony Woods. The 27-year-old American center returns to Panionios where he played in 2014 averaging 7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Woods has also played for APOEL in Cyprus, in Romania for CS Energia Rovinari, in Greece for Apollon Patras, Kifisia, and Doxa Lefkadas, and most recently in the Dominican Republic for Soles de Santo Domingo and in Bulgaria for Rilski.

Doxa Lefkadas sign Tony Woods

Doxa Lefkadas sign Tony Woods*. The 26 years old American center joined the newly promoted team of Lefkada and will continue to play basketball in Greece. Woods signed with Kifisia in 2013 after a season that revived his career, averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 26 games, he moved to Panionios. In August 2015 Woods joined Apollon Patras, and was the third top scorer of his team, averaging 8.54 points per game.

*Doxa Lefkadas canceled the contract offer, due to Woods not passing his medical tests (knee problem).

Olympiacos beat Panionios for Basket League tenth day

Olympiacos beat Panionios for Basket League tenth day. Olympiacos with a massive defence allowed Panionios to score only 5 points in the first and 13 points in the second quarter. Easy victory for the reds that had 12 players with score. For Panionios only Luke Hancock had two digits score with 17 points and 3 steals. Dimitris Verginis had 7 points and 4 assists, Tony Woods had 6 points and 4 rebounds. For the winners Bryant Dunston had 18 points with 9/11 shots, Vangelis Mantzaris served 7 assists and made 3 steals, Kostas Sloukas had 7 points and 5 assists. Brent Petway made a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Yaroslav Korolev had 0/7 field goals and scored only 3 points with 3 free throws.

Panathinaikos beat Panionios for Basket League ninth day

Panathinaikos hosted and beat Panionios for Basket League ninth day. In a game with 12.000 attendance, due to 1€ enctrance fee, Panathinaikos did not face any problems against Panionios. All players of Panathinaikos played and scored from Papagiannis to Charalampopoulos and Diamantakos. James Gist scored 19 points, Vlantimir Giankovits had 18 points and 7 rebounds, Janis Blums with 4 three pointers scored 12 points and Dimitris Diamantidis served 5 assists in 22 minutes. For Panionios only Tony Woods had 12 points, Yaroslav Korolev had 8 rebounds and 7 points, Luke Hancock had 8 points and 3 assists.

Panionios beat Korivos Amaliadas for Basket League seventh day

Panionios hosted and beat Korivos Amaliadas for Basket League seventh day. This was the first victory for Panionios in Basket League 2014-2015 after six defeats! Korivos started the game with a 5-14 run and finished first half leading the score by four points but in the second quarter Panionios balanced the game. With a 10-2 run Panionios finished first half leading by four points with Yaroslav Korolev making another great game. Korivos approached Panionios to one point at the end of the third quarter but did not manage to win the game. The visitors collected 7 rebounds more than Panionios but also made 17 turnovers. For Panionios Yaroslav Korolev had 23 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds, Tony Woods had 14 points and 7 rebounds, Dimitris Verginis had 14 points and Vasilis Xanthopoulos had 7 points and 5 rebounds. For Korivos Amaliadas Guille Rubio made a double double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Rob Lowery had 20 points and 8 rebounds, Darrius Garret had 8 points and 11 rebounds.

PAOK beat Panionios for Basket League fifth day

Panionios hosted PAOK for Basket League fifth day. Panionios was about to make its first victory and led the score 55-52 two minutes before the end but PAOK was more focused with an 8-0 run made the score 55-60. PAOK had more players to score and won a tough game. For Panionios Yaroslav Korolev had 20 points, Gabe Pruitt and Vasilis Xanthopoulos had 10 points each and Tony Woods had 5 points and 8 rebounds. In his debut Luke Hancock had 7 points. For PAOK Julian Vaughn made a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Charalampidis had 11 points, Marc Carter had 9 points and 8 rebounds, Christos Saloustros had 6 points and 6 rebounds.

AEK beat Panionios for Basket League second day

AEK hosted and defeated Panionios for Basket League second day. Both teams faced financial and management problems this summer but AEK solved them earlier than Panionios who is still forming its roster. This was the first Basket League home game for AEK after the team was relegated to A2 division and the fans were waiting for it. AEK dominated the first quarter and finished it with double score plus one point, 27-13, and continued like this in the second quarter. In the first half AEK had 7/11 three pointers with David Kyles having 11 points while for Panionios only Yaroslav Korolev had 10 points. Panionios started second half with a 7-0 run and lowered the difference up to 8 points, 50-42, AEK expanded it back to two digits but with four free throws in the end Panionios finished the third quarter only seven points behing the home team. In the last quarter AEK made a 7-0 run and restored the difference to two digits score up to the end. AEK made its first victory for the Basket League 2014-2015 and Panionios doubled its defeats. For AEK Dusan Sakota scored 18 points, David Kyles and Leonidas Kaselakis scored 11 points each while Zisis Sarikopoulos collected 10 rebounds and scored 8 points. For Panionios Vasilis Xanthopoulos scored 16 points, Yaroslav Korolev scored 15 points and collected 9 rebounds, Tony Woods scored 14 points and collected 9 rebounds.

Nea Kifisia defeated Panelefsiniakos for Greek League thirteenth day

Nea Kifisia hosted and defeated Panelefsiniakos for Greek Basket League thirteenth day. First quarter was tight but Nea Kifisia with 4/6 three pointers and 6/9 two pointers took the lead by 7 points. Panelefsiniakos imroved in the second quarter and finished the half time with two points under Nea Kifisia. Third quarter was a balanced one before Nea Kifisia with Tony Crocker and Nikos Liakopoulos securing the victory and Saša Vasiljević with two three pointers finishing the game. For Nea Kifisia Dimitris Tsaldaris scored 20 points, Nikos Liakopoulos 17 points and Tony Woods had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. For Nea Kifisia Brandis Raley Ross was the top scorer with 18 points. Manolis Papamakarios and Rob Jones scored 14 points each and Larry Turner made a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Nea Kifisia defeated Apollon Patras for Greek League eleventh day

Nea Kifisia hosted and defeated Apollon Patras for Greek League eleventh day. This was the third victory in a row for Nea Kifisia and the third defeat in the row for Apollon Patras. Nea Kifisia was leading the game except of the second quarter where Apollon Patras made its counter attack. Apollon Patras had a poor 30% accuracy in two pointers with 15/50 shots. Nea Kifisia had two players with a double double, Tony Crocker and Tony Woods. Tony Crocker scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds, while Tony Woods scored 12 points, collected 13 rebounds and made 5 blocks! The veteran Michalis Kakiouzis helped a lot with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 23 minutes.

Ilisiakos defeated Nea Kifisia

Ilisiakos hosted Nea Kifisia in a game where the winner would leave the loser last in the table. The veteran Nikos Barlos helped his team took the lead in the first quarter, where Nea Kifisia was ahead with 18-26. DJ Stephens and Petrodimopoulos scored in the second quarter and the first half finished with the two teams close in score, 37-39. Third quarter was competitive as well and the score remained balanced. Ilisiakos with Kevin Anderson scoring better in the last quarter, turned the game upside down and finally won it by 6 points, 71-65. Great come back for Ilisiakos in a crucial home game. Tony Crocker and Tony Woods both finished the game with a double double, 11 points and 10 rebounds for Crocker, 14 points and 11 rebounds for Woods.

Kolossos Rodou wins AE Nea Kifisia for the Greek cup

Kolossos Rodou wins AE Nea Kifisia for the Greek cup with 71-69. Stefanidis scored a three points shot 2 seconds before the end and Nea Kifisia succeed in one free throw with Tsaldaris 0.8 seconds before the end. Kolossos Rodou continues in the cup and will play against Panionios. Quarters' scores were 19-18, 42-33, 56-48, 71-69.

Nea Kifisia signed Tony Woods

Nea Kifisia signed rookie Tony Woods. Woods, 23 years old American center, graduated from Oregon Ducks college and he is known for his defensive game. His career was promising before an incident with his girlfriend that led him to plead guilty to assaulting his girlfriend on Labor Day, fracturing her spine.. New season, new continent, new championship and we will see if Woods will revive his career in the newly promoted Nea Kifisia and the Greek Basketball League.
