Dušan Šakota renews with AEK

Dušan Šakota renewed his contract with AEK for three more years. The 31 years old Greek Serbian forward joined AEK in 2014. Sakota started his career with Panathinaikos, and has also played for Panionios, Victoria Libertas Pesaro, Oostende, and Enisey. Šakota played 32 games with AEK for the Basket League Greece 2016-2017 averaging 11.28 points, 3.53 rebounds, and 1.28 assists per game.

Rethymno Aegean beat AEK for Basket League twenty fourth day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat AEK for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 twenty fourth day. AEK was leading the score for 36 minutes but Rethymno with an 8-0 run in the last minutes (and the technical foul of Mensah-Bonsu, who was fouled out) stole the victory since Scottie Wilbekin missed the last shot. Rethymno Aegean had 2/13 three pointers, but also had ten more offensive rebounds (16-6) and only 8 team turnovers, while AEK had 13 missed free throws (17/30). Great game by Roeland Schaftenaar, with 27 points and 6 rebounds. The Dutch blocked Pops Mensah-Bonsu who collected 9 rebounds but scored only 6 points, made 5 turnovers before being fouled out. For Rethymno Faye had 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Vincent Council served 6 assists, Giannis Kalampokis had 17 points. For AEK Malik Hairston had 22 points and 7 fouls drawn, Dusan Sakota had 14 points, Carl English had 11 points with 1/5 three pointers, Wilbekin served 5 assists but did not pass the ball for the last crucial shot.

AEK beat Aries Trikala for Basket League twenty third day

AEK hosted and beat Aries Trikala for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 twenty third day. AEK honoured Giorgos Amerikanos and debuted the NBA style replicas. This celebration atmosphere did not help the team focus on defence and Aries Trikala finished the first quarter leading the score. Dragan Sakota did not let his players loose and AEK allowed Trikala only 16 points in the second quarter. Mixed debut for coach Kostas Papazoglou with a good first half. Another double double for Pops Mensah-Bonsu with 15 points, 17 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn. Malik Hairston had 21 points and 5 assists, Dusan Sakota had 16 points and 8 assists, Tomas Delininkaitis had 13 points. For Trikala Slaven Cupkovic had 17 points and 7 rebounds, Brian Tracey had 11 points and 8 rebounds, Justin Ingram had 12 points and 7 assists, Steve Panos had 14 points in 17 minutes. A good game with 15 total turnovers, 8 for AEK and 7 for Trikala. Visitors had 4/21 three pointers, while AEK had 12/25.

AEK beat Nea Kifisia for Basket League twentieth day. AEK continued the perfect games and against Nea Kifisia had 27 team assists, 25/41 two pointers and total ranking 124 points. Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 21 points and 7 rebounds, Dusan Sakota had 16 points and 6 assists, Malik Hairston had 12 points and 6 assists. For Nea Kifisia Uros Duvnjak had 17 points, Dimitris Mavroeidis had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Nea Kifisia had 8/24 three pointers.

AEK smashed Apollon Patras for Basket League nineteenth day

AEK beat Apollon Patras for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 nineteenth day. Great road victory for AEK in Patras where Apollon is powerful. The first quarter finished with triple score and the second quarter with double score for AEK. Apollon had a terrible first half in accuracy with 1/14 three pointers and 5/18 two pointers. Apollon finished the first half with the same points (21) that just two players of AEK had scored: Dusan Sakota (10) and Pops Mensah-Bonsu (11). Apollon did not managed to counter attack in the second half and AEK won the game by 41 points! AEK had 15/28 three pointers while Apollon had 2/27! For the winners Pops Mensha-Bonsu made a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Dusan Sakota had 27 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, Carl English had 12 points and Malik Hairston had 11 points. For Apollon Patras Batis had 12 points, Penn had 10 points, and Skordilis had 11 points.  AEK played tight defence which led El-Amin having 1/11 field goals and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick 0/6 field goals. Fitzpatrick and Galloway collected 7 rebounds each. Impressive victory for AEK against Apollon in Patras!

Panathinaikos beat AEK for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 sixteenth day. AEK started with 7-1 run, Panathinaikos balanced the game but the first half finished with AEK leading the score. AEK was bad in three pointers, 2/14, and Panathinaikos took the lead and created a secure difference. For AEK Pops Mensah-Bonsu made a double double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn. Malik Hairston and Dusan Sakota scored 12 points each and Zisis Sarikopoulos collected 8 rebounds. Carl English had 1/8 three pointers and made 6 turnovers. For Panathinaikos Esteban Batista made a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. James Gist scored 13 points, Antonis Fotsis collected 7 rebounds, Dimitris Diamantidis served 6 assists. AJ Slaughter had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. DeMarcus Nelson made 5 turnovers out of 19 team turnovers.

Aries Trikala beat AEK for Basket League tenth day

Aries Trikala hosted and beat AEK for Basket League tenth day. Aries Trikala was in the bottom of the League table but AEK had only one road victory. The game started with a 25 minutes delay due to fights between the police and AEK fans, with the police throwing tear gas inside the closed court which created problems in the breathing. AEK with Car English was leading the score by 11 points, 19-30, but the home team managed to counter attack and celebrated a great victory. The game was a fight between Aries Trikala's Kenny Kadji and AEK's Carl English, both of them finished the game with a double double, 33 points and 11 rebounds for English, 21 points and 11 rebounds for Kadji. For the winners Ntinos Nikolopoulos had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, Justin Ingram had 14 points but with 3/9 field goals. For AEK Dusan Sakota had 15 points, 6 rebounsd and 5 assists, Ziris Sarikopoulos had 8 points and 5 rebounds, Giannis Athinaiou had 11 points and 4 assists.

AEK hosted and beat Kolossos Rodou for Basket League eighth day. The first half was tight but in the third quarter AEK with partial score 30-16 created a secure difference. For the winners Carl English had 28 points, 7 assists and 7 fouls drawn. Dusan Sakota had 24 points and 7 rebounds, Zisis Sarikopoulos had 17 points and 8 rebounds, Tomas Delininkaitisi had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. For Kolossos Rodou Mike James had 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, Taylor Smith had 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, Aggelos Tsamis had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

AEK beat Apollon Patras for Basket League sixth day

AEK hosted and beat Apollon Patras for Basket League sixth day. In Dragan Šakota's debut as the coach of AEK in the Basket League his team managed to beat Apollon Patras in a very tight game. AEK shot many three pointers but was not accurate, 9/36, but had more rebounds and less turnovers than Apollon Patras. Dragan's son Dušan Šakota and Carl English were the leaders for the winners with 19 and 21 points respectively. Nontas Papantoniou served 9 assists, Milan Milošević collected 13 rebounds and Tomas Delininkaitis had 0/7 three pointers. For Apollon Patras Muhammad El-Amin had 23 points, Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had 13 points, 7 rebounds and Nikos Argyropoulos had 10 points and 4 assists. Giannis Georgalis did not score in 20 minutes before being fouled out.

AEK signed Dragan Šakota as head coach

AEK signed Dragan Šakota as head coach. The 62 years old Greek-Serbian coach returns to AEK after 11 years. Šakota started his coaching career in Yugoslavia for IMT Beograd, Zadar and Cibona before moving to Greece for PAOK, Apollon Patras, Iraklis, Peristeri, AEK and Olympiacos. In 2005 he returned to Serbia for Red Star and after two years he moved to Italy for Fortitudo Bologna and Turkey for Trabzonspor and  Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi. In 2006, Šakota coached the Serbia and Montenegro national basketball team at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Dragan Šakota will coach his son Dušan Šakota, who is currently the best player of AEK.

Panelefsiniakos beat AEK for Basket League fifth day

Panelefsiniakos hosted and beat AEK for Basket League fifth day. The debut of coach Koustenis brought the first victory for Panelefsiniakos who reached AEK in the League table. In a very tight game Panelefsiniakos with three consecutive three pointers in the third quarter creatd a difference, 55-48, that kept until the end and won the game. Great game by Giannis Athanasoulas with 21 points, 4/4 two pointers and 4/5 three pointers, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Aaric Murray had 13 points and 9 rebounds, Stelios Ioannou had 12 points, Fotis Vasilopoulos had 5 points and 5 assists. For AEK Dusan Sakota had 23 points, Carl English had 11 points and 5 assists, Leonidas Kaselakis had 4 points and 7 rebounds. In his debut Tomas Delininkaitis had 10 points and 4 assists.

Olympiacos beat AEK for Basket League fourth day

Olympiacos beat AEK in OAKA for Basket League fourth day.  In the debut of Sfairopoulos with Olympiacos AEK managed to trouble the reds in the first quarters with a 9-4 lead and 15-14 first quarter score. In the second quarter Olympiacos took the lead with Vasilis Spanoulis having 14 points in the first half. The home team counter attacked again in the third quarter but could not follow in the last and Olympiacos won by 19 points. Great game by Vasilis Spanoulis with 14 points and 5 assists and Othello Hunter had 6 points and 7 rebounds. For AEK Dusan Sakota had 15 points, Zisis Sarikopoulos had 7 points and 6 rebounds, Leonidas Kaselakis had 10 points.

Panathinaikos beat AEK for Basket League third day

Panathinaikos hosted beat AEK for Basket League third day. Panathinaikos didn't let AEK hope with a 15-3 run in the first minutes and won the game by 34 points difference. The new players of Panathinaikos dominated the game with Lefteris Bochoridis serving 13 assists (missed double double for one point), Nikos Pappas scored 18 points and AJ Slaughter and Vlantimir Giankovits scored 16 points each. For AEK only Dusan Sakota scored more than 10 points and Zisis Sarikopoulos scored 9 points and collected 9 rebounds.

AEK beat Panionios for Basket League second day

AEK hosted and defeated Panionios for Basket League second day. Both teams faced financial and management problems this summer but AEK solved them earlier than Panionios who is still forming its roster. This was the first Basket League home game for AEK after the team was relegated to A2 division and the fans were waiting for it. AEK dominated the first quarter and finished it with double score plus one point, 27-13, and continued like this in the second quarter. In the first half AEK had 7/11 three pointers with David Kyles having 11 points while for Panionios only Yaroslav Korolev had 10 points. Panionios started second half with a 7-0 run and lowered the difference up to 8 points, 50-42, AEK expanded it back to two digits but with four free throws in the end Panionios finished the third quarter only seven points behing the home team. In the last quarter AEK made a 7-0 run and restored the difference to two digits score up to the end. AEK made its first victory for the Basket League 2014-2015 and Panionios doubled its defeats. For AEK Dusan Sakota scored 18 points, David Kyles and Leonidas Kaselakis scored 11 points each while Zisis Sarikopoulos collected 10 rebounds and scored 8 points. For Panionios Vasilis Xanthopoulos scored 16 points, Yaroslav Korolev scored 15 points and collected 9 rebounds, Tony Woods scored 14 points and collected 9 rebounds.

Aris beat AEK for Greek Cup

Aris beat AEK in Thessaloniki for Greek Basketball Cup. The home team was leading the game in the whole game. Dusan Sakota and Nontas Papantoniou of AEK did their best to win the game but in the end the home team scored all crucial free throws and secured the victory. For Aris Aleksandar Vezenkov had 22 points and 10 rebounds and LeMarcus Reed had 17 points, 6 steals and 4 steals. Besides Papantoniou and Sakota, Zisis Sarikopoulos made a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds against his former team. Aris qualified to the next round where will play against Nea Kifisia in Athens.

AEK BC signed Dušan Šakota

AEK BC signed Dušan Šakota. The 28 years old Serbian Greek forward started his career with Panathinaikos where he played for six years, with an one year break when he was on loan to Panionios. Šakota then moved to Italy for Victoria Libertas Pesaro but he didn't finish the season due to an injury which led to a medical coma after an incorect medical exam and surgery. When the player recovered he moved to Belgium for Oostende but was released in Winter and moved to Russia for Enisey.
