Ionikos Nikaias signed Roeland Schaftenaar

Ionikos Nikaias signed Roeland Schaftenaar. The newly promoted to A2 League team announced the 30-year-old Dutch international forward. Schaftenaar started his professional career in Spain with La Palma and has also played for Breogán. In 2014 Schaftenaar moved to Greece for Rethymno where he played for three seasons and in the last season, he played for Faros Larisas

Rethymno Aegean beat AEK for Basket League twenty fourth day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat AEK for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 twenty fourth day. AEK was leading the score for 36 minutes but Rethymno with an 8-0 run in the last minutes (and the technical foul of Mensah-Bonsu, who was fouled out) stole the victory since Scottie Wilbekin missed the last shot. Rethymno Aegean had 2/13 three pointers, but also had ten more offensive rebounds (16-6) and only 8 team turnovers, while AEK had 13 missed free throws (17/30). Great game by Roeland Schaftenaar, with 27 points and 6 rebounds. The Dutch blocked Pops Mensah-Bonsu who collected 9 rebounds but scored only 6 points, made 5 turnovers before being fouled out. For Rethymno Faye had 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Vincent Council served 6 assists, Giannis Kalampokis had 17 points. For AEK Malik Hairston had 22 points and 7 fouls drawn, Dusan Sakota had 14 points, Carl English had 11 points with 1/5 three pointers, Wilbekin served 5 assists but did not pass the ball for the last crucial shot.

Kolossos secured the sixth place with a good game from two hot prospects, Toliopoulos and Larentzakis. Impressive statistic for the winners the nine blocks they made, 4 by Taylor Smith and 3 by Jamelle Hagins. Vasilis Toliopoulos had 15 points with only missed shot, Taylor Smith collected 9 rebounds, Dominic Waters served 8 assists. For Rethymno Damian Hollis scored 13 points, Faye had 7 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn, Roeland Schaftenaar scored 10 points with only two shots missed, and Fanis Koumpouras served 4 assists.

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat Nea Kifisia for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 twenty second day. Nea Kifisia was leading the game in the first half. The visitors began with an 11-2 run but in the second half Vincent Council and Fanis Koumpouras balanced the score. Rethymno Aegean created a secure difference, 57-47. In the last seconds Nea Kifisia approached to 60-58, but could not steal the victory. For the winners Damian Hollis in his debut was the top scorer with 12 points (9/10 free throws). Faye had 0/5 three pointers but scored 8 points, collected 6 rebounds and served 4 assists. Roeland Schaftenaar collected 6 rebounds, Fanis Koumpouras scored 11 points. Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat Panelefsiniakos for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 twentieth day. Rethymno Aegean lost by Panathinaikos and Olympiacos but against Panelefsiniakos the team had better chances. With a 9-0 run in the beginning and 21-8 score in the first quarter, Rethymno dominated the game. The winners had only 4/14 three pointers and 4 offensive rebounds, but also had 25/46 two pointers and 23/31 free throws. Double double for Roeland Schaftenaar with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Vincent Council had 16 points and 7 assists, Mouhammad Faye scored 13 points and made 4 blocks, Travis Simpson scored 15 points. For Panelefsiniakos Nemaja Mitrovic had 19 points, Elijah Johnson had 7 points and 8 rebounds. Nikola Markovic made a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds but had 2/13 field goals.

Olympiacos hosted and beat Rethymno Aegean for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 nineteenth day. The visitors started better and finished the first quarter ahead by 6 points, 15-21. Sloukas helped Olympiacos to balance the game and the expulsion of Vincent Council with two unsportsmanslike foul changed the game. Great game for Kostas Sloukas who made a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. For the winners Othello Hunter collected 11 rebounds and scored 6 points, Bryant Dunston made 4 blocks. For Rethymno Roeland Schaftenaar and Travis Simpson scored 9 points. Schaftenaar collected 11 rebounds, and 4 out of 8 team offensive rebounds. Mouhammad Faye collected 8 rebounds and made 3 steals. Fanis Koumpouras served 3 assists.
Poor shot accuracy for Rethymno that had 2/16 three pointers.

Rethymno Aegean beat Panionios for Basket League seventeenth day

Panionios hosted Rethymno Aegean for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 seventeenth day. Panionios wanted the victory but Rethymno Aegean had Giannis Kalampokis on fire! Kalampokis scored 28 points (5/9 3p, 7/8 ft), served 5 assists, collected 3 rebounds and had 6 fouls drawn. The game was tight in the first half but in the second Rethymno was keeping a secure difference. In the end Panionios tried but the visitors did not let the home team complete its counter attack. For the winners, besides Kalampokis, Mouhammad Faye made a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, Roeland Schaftenaar had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, and Dejan Kravic had 8 points and 7 rebounds. For Panionios Vasilis Xanthopoulos made his second double double with 11 points and 10 assists! William Coleman had 24 points and 5 rebounds, Yaroslav Korolev had 18 points, Dimitris Verginis had 16 points before being fouled out and Mackey McKnight in his debut scored one free throw and had 0/4 field goals. Bad result for Panionios that needs home wins in order to avoid relegation.

Rethymno Aegean beat Korivos Amaliadas for Basket League sixteenth day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat Korivos Amaliadas for Basket League Greece 2014-2015 sixteenth day. Korivos surprised Rethymno in the first quarter with a 8-22 partial score but the home team was lowering the difference steadily until the end. In the extra time Rethymno with 20-8 partial score did not let Korivos hope. For the winners Mouhammad Faye made a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Roeland Schaftenaar had 14 points and 8 rebounds, Dejan Kravic had 14 points, Chaisson Allen had 13 points and Fanis Koumpouras had 10 points and 5 assists. For Korivos Josh Magette had a complete performance with 15 points, 8 fouls drawn, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Nikos Angelopoulos with 17 points and 8 rebounds did his best and Rawie Marshall had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Korivos believed it could make a road victory after seven defeats but in the over time Rethymno dominated the game.

For Rethymno Aegean Roeland Schaftenaar returned as the top scorer with 16 points, Vincent Council had 15 points and 6 assists, Mouhammad Faye had 8 rebounds and 6 points but 0/4 field goals. Roeland Schaftenaar renews with Rethymno Aegean. The Dutch player started good but had an eye surgery and was out of action for two months. His contract was renewed for two more years and will play again tomorrow against PAOK.

Rethymno Aegean signed Fahro Alihodzic. The 26 years old Bosnian will replace Roeland Schaftenaar as long as he will be out of action due to an eye injury. Alihodzic played two years for UAB Blazers in the NCAA Division I.

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat Panionios for Basket League fourth day. Panionios with Vangelis Alexandris as its new coach was more competitive but did not celebrate its first victory and will struggle to avoid relegation. For Rethymno Aegean Roeland Schaftenaar made a double double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Fanis Koumpouras had 10 points and 5 assists. Trevis Simpson, Chaisson Allen and Mouhammed Faye had 9 points each. For Panionios Yaroslav Korolev had 14 points and 8 rebounds and the new addition Gabe Prewitt had 12 points with 4 three pointers.

For Rethymno Aegean Roeland Schaftenaar scored 15 points, Trevis Simpson scored 14 points, Fanis Koumpouras served 8 assists, Mouhammad Faye scored 15 points and collected 9 rebounds, Dejan Kravic scored 11 points and collected 8 rebounds. For Korivos Amaliadas Saša Vasiljević scored 8 points but missed the last shot, Josh Magette scored 16 points and served 4 assists, Darrius Garrett scored 9 points and collected 7 rebounds. Rethymno Aegean beat KAOD for Basket League second day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and defeated KAOD for Basket League second day. First quarter was bad for both team with many missed shots (4/16 field goald for each team) and low score, 9-11. The second quarter was slightly beter but still tight and in the end Rethymno Aegean with Faye and Schaftenaar created a difference of 6 points, 35-29. Allen and Schaftenaar for Rethymno finished the first half with 9 points each. The home team improved at third quarter and with Simpson and Schaftenaar expanded the difference to 9 points, 50-41. KAOD was pressing Rethymno but the home team dominated rebounds and won the game. Mouhammad Faye finished the game with a double double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Roeland Schaftenaar had 11 points, 6 rebounds and Trevis Simpson had 13 points. For KAOD Eric Atkins had 16 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds. Rob Loe had 13 points, Thororis Zaras had 12 points and Terone Johnson 7 points and 5 assists.

In a very tight game, that needed an extra time in order to have a winner, PAOK beat Rethymno Aegean with its new players Marc Carter and Julian Vaughn. Marc Carter had 19 points, Julian Vaughn had 15 points and 6 rebounds and Christos Saloustros had 11 points. For Rethymno Aegean Chaisson Allen had 16 points and 7 rebounds, Trevis Simpson had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Roeland Schaftenaar had 15 points and 5 rebounds, Mouhammad Faye had 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Rethymno Aegean signed Roeland Schaftenaar

Rethymno Aegean signed Roeland Schaftenaar. The 26 years old Dutch will replace Brian Fitzpatrick. Schaftenaar is 2.11m high and graduated from Oregon State. After graduation the Dutch center played four years in the second division of Spain, two years for UB La Palma and two years for CB Breogán. Schaftenaar is member of the National basketball team of Netherlands.
