Petar Aleksić Takes the Helm at Iraklis BC

Iraklis Thessaloniki has officially announced the appointment of Petar Aleksić as the head coach for the 2024-25 season. Aleksić, a seasoned coach with a wealth of experience and a track record of success in Switzerland and Germany, as well as on the European and international stages, is set to lead the team in their pursuit of their goals for the upcoming season.


Coaching Career Highlights

Petar Aleksić was born on November 2, 1968, in Trebinje. His long tenure in Switzerland led to him acquiring Swiss citizenship. Aleksić began his coaching career in 2004 with the Austrian team BBC Feldkirch Baskets, where he served as a member of the coaching staff until the end of the 2005-2006 season.

In the 2006-2007 season, he took the helm of Union Neuchâtel in Switzerland. The following year, he joined Alba Berlin as an assistant to Luka Pavicevic, celebrating the team's German Championship victory.

After continuing with Alba Berlin for the 2008-2009 season, Aleksić returned to Union Neuchâtel in the 2010-2011 season. He then spent two years with Monthey in Switzerland from 2011 to 2013 and also coached Switzerland's U20 national team in 2012.

From 2013 to 2023, Aleksić was the head coach of Fribourg Olympic, Switzerland’s most successful basketball team. Under his leadership, Fribourg Olympic won six championships (2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023), five cups (2016, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023), three League Cups (2018, 2020, 2022), and four Super Cups (2016, 2020, 2021, 2022). Aleksić was named Switzerland’s Coach of the Year eight times (2011, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023).

His tenure at Fribourg Olympic also saw the team participate in the Basketball Champions League and the FIBA Europe Cup. Additionally, he served as the head coach of Switzerland’s men's national team from 2013 to 2016, guiding them to a notable victory over Russia during the 2015 EuroBasket qualification.

Playing Career


Before embarking on his coaching career, Aleksić enjoyed a 17-year playing career, competing for various teams across Europe. His playing career included stints with FMP Zeleznik (Serbia), Zalaegerszegi Torna Egylet Kosárlabda Klub (Hungary), Union Neuchatel (Switzerland), BBC Nyon (Switzerland), Leotar Trebinje (Bosnia), NAP Novi Sad (Serbia), KK Zagreb (Croatia), and JUG Dubrovnik (Croatia).

Lavrio signed Milan Milosevic. The 33-year-old Bosnian forward started his career with Hercegovac and has also played for Sloboda Tuzla, Crvena Zvezda, Bosna, Keravnos Strovolou, Budućnost Podgorica, and Zlatorog Laško. In 2014 Milosevic signed with AEK where he played three seasons before moving to Promitheas Patras. With Promitheas he averaged 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds.

Apollon Patras sign Edin Bavčić. The 32 years old Bosnian forward penned an one year contract. Bavčić returns to Basket League since he played for Aris in 2011 and for KAOD from 2012 to 2014. Bavčić counts 80 games in the Basket League Greece with 9.36 points and 5 rebounds per game on average. In the previous season he played in Hungary for Sopron.

Panionios sign Fahro Alihodzic. The British Bosnian center penned a two years contract with Panionios. Alihodzic came in Greece in 2014 for Rethymno and continued with Promitheas. Alihodzic averaged 10.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with Promitheas in the previous season.

Panelefsiniakos signed Nemanja Mitrović. The 24 years old Bosnian Canadian guard is 197cm high and member of Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He graduated from Portland where he played four years for the Portland Pilots and in the previous season he played in Italy for Sutor Montegranaro. Mitrović will replace Frank Robinson who left the team.

Aries Trikala and Adnan Hodžić part ways. The 26 years old Bosnian player asked the team to terminate his contract and leave. Hodžić played four games with Trikala and averaged 8 points and 3.5 rebounds.

Aries Trikala signed Adnan Hodžić. The 26 years old American Bosnian is 2.04 meter high and member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national basketball team. In the previous season Hodžić played in Qatar for Al Arabi averaging 20.9 points and 10.3 rebounds in 16 games. He graduated from Lipscomb Univercity where he played in the NCAA and was named Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year 2010 and AP honorable mention All-American 2010. After USA Hodžić played in Germany for Walter Tigers Tübingen and in Switzerland for BBC Monthey.

Then he moved to Greece and played a year for Kavala and a year for Aris BC. He is a member of the Bosnian national team.

DJ Cooper acquired Bosnian passport. The American play maker that had a great rookie season with PAOK in Greek Basket League and Eurocup is now having a Bosnian passport and Duško Ivanović announced that Cooper will be part of the Bosnian national team. What is left to see is if Cooper and Ivanović will work together only in Bosnian national team or will also work together in Panathinaikos.

Apollon Patras signed Amin Hot

Apollon Patras signed Amin Hot. The 21 years old Bosnian guard had only played in the Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2012-2013 Hot has been named season MVP with Vogošća. With Vogošća Hot played 22 games and had an average of 17.3 points per game and 7.1 assists per game finishing first in assists in the league. Before Vogošća Hot had played two seasons with Bosna. Hot will sign a 4 years contract with Apollon Patras.
