Vasilis Simtsak renews with Aris

Vasilis Simtsak renewed his contract with Aris. The 35 years old Greek center played 61 games with Aris in the Basket League 2015-2016 averaging 2.35 points, 2.23 rebounds in 13 minutes per game, but besides his numbers he is a valuable player for his coach and always in his selections. Simtsak has played for Doukas, Sporting, AEK, PAOK, Trikala, Ikaros and Panionios, and he renewed his contract a year ago.

Vasilis Simtsak renewed his contract with Aris. The Greek center came to Aris a year ago from Panionios and helped his team to return to Eurocup. Simtsak averaged 3.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in regular season.

Kolossos Rodou beat Aris for Basket League seventh day

Aris hosted Kolossos Rodou for Basket League seventh day. Mike James returned to good games and Kolossos Rodou dominated first quarter in Thessaloniki against Aris with partial score 9-25. Aris balanced the game in the second quarter but did not lower the difference. Aleksandar Vezenkov finished first half with 10 points and 9 rebounds while Mike James had 17 points. In the first half Aris had 2/16 three pointers. In the third quarter the home team counter attacked and lowered the difference in one digit number but could not continue in the last quarter and Kolossos celebrated a great victory in Thessaloniki against Aris. Aleksandar Vezenkov made another double double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. LeMarcus Reed had 14 points and Vasilis Symtsak had 9 points. For the winners Mike James had 28 points and 7 rebounds, Jamelle Hagins made a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Tom Liden had 16 points.

Aris signed Vasilis Simtsak. The 33 years old Greek center had previously played for Aris rival PAOK but has also worked with coach Dimitris Priftis in Kavala and Ikaros Kallitheas. Simtsak played for Panionios in the previous season averaging 3.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

Panionios beat PAOK for Greek League 23rd day

Panionios hosted and defeated PAOK for Greek Basket League 23rd day. Panionios had won PAOK in the first round game by 91-100 in Thessaloniki. Panionios was leading the score in the first half and PAOK balanced the game in the second one. In the last minutes Kostas Charalampidis scored a three pointer, Errick McCollum didn't score and the game went to extra time. In the extra time DJ Cooper was leading PAOK but he also was the crucial player that missed the final attack. In a very productive game, where the partial total score of each quarter was more than 35 points, Panionios had more rebounds and less turnovers. The two teams had the same three pointers 10/26 and the same successful field goals 22 with the home team shooting 6 more than PAOK. For Panionios Errick McCollum had 20 points, Vasilis Simtsak had 12 points, 9 rebounds and Giannis Athanasoulas had 6 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. For PAOK Kostas Charalampidis had 26 points, Mark Payne had 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, Michalis Tsairelis had 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Panionios hosted and defeated Ikaros Chalkidas for Greek Basket League 21st day. Panionios won the first game between the two teams and also have won both games in the previous season. Panionios dominated the first quarter when took a lead of 16 points and the first half the difference was at twenty points. Ikaros Chalkidas with 1/11 three pointers and 8 turnovers in first half couldn't ask for more. The difference was getting bigger each quarter and the final difference was 35 points for Panionios. Ikaros Chalkidas finished the game with 1/16 three pointers, 15 turnovers and 11/23 free throws. Panionios had 5 players with two digits score and 11 players scoring. Errick McCollum had 15 points, Marc Carter 13 points and 5 rebounds, Vassilis Simtsak 9 points and 9 rebounds. Panionios lost by Bilbao for Eurocup Last 32. Panionios didn't have motive since the team was counting 5 defeats in 5 games for the Eurocup Last 32 round. Panionios started with a 6-0 run but Bilbao with a 13-0 and took the lead of the score. Bilbao was ahead in score by near 10 points. In the third quarter Panionios lowered the difference to 3 points but Mumbru with three pointers didn't let home team any chance. In the five minutes Panionios made a 22-8 run but couldn't win one game for the Last 32 round in Eurocup. Elimination with six defeats in six games for Panionios and Eurocup will continue without any teams from Greece.

Aries Trikala lost from Panionios for Greek League 15th day

Aries Trikala hosted Panionios for Greek Basket League 15th day. First quarter started tight but Aries Trikala made a small counter attack in the end and finished it with a small lead of five points. Chris Evans finished the first quarter with 7 points and 6 rebounds. In the second quarter Trikala created a 7 points difference, 23-16, Panionios took the lead 33-34, but first half finished with a 6-0 run from Aries Trikala and 5 points lead. Aries Trikala finished the first half with only 6 turnovers and Chris Evans having a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes! Marc Carter had 5 turnovers of the 13 team turnovers of Panionios. In the third quarter Aries Trikala was ahead by 4-5 points but Errick McCollum started scoring for Panionios and with 4/4 three pointers gave a 4 points lead for his team, 55-59. Third quarter finished with Panionios scoring three pointers and Aries Trikala with Mario Matalon free throws. Vasilis Simtsak helped Panionios keep the lead in the fourth quarter beginning. One minute before the end Patrick Ewing Junior scored a three pointer making the score 73-75. McCollum, Langford, Kyritsis, Evans failed to score and Mike Porrini scored and equalized the score 75-75, 30 seconds before the end. Kyritsis and Perunicic failed to score and the game finished with equal score in normal time, 75-75. In extra time Panionios was leading the score and Aries Trikala was equalizing, 75-77 to 77-77, then 77-79 to 79-79 but with consecutive free throws from Nikolopoulos and Patrick Ewing Junior Aries Trikala took the lead with 83-79. Keving Langford scored a three pointer and made the score 83-82. Marc Carter scored the most crucial two points of the game and gave his team a great victory with score 83-84 in extra time. Chris Evans finished the game with double double, 12 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Michael Porrini had 18 points and 4 assists. For Panionios all players, except young Skordilis, scored at least 2 points in the game with Errick McCollum being again the top scorer with 20 points.
