Panathinaikos and Kenny Gabriel part ways


Panathinaikos and Kenny Gabriel part ways. The 28-year old American forward parted ways with the Greek champions after two years. Panathinaikos paid the $50.000 release clause of Gabriel's contract. Gabriel joined Panathinaikos in 2016 and renewed his contract in the previous summer. In the last season, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 13 games for the domestic league and 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 33 games for the Euroleague. Gabriel has also played in Greece with Rethymno, in Cyprus with AEL Limassol, in Israel with Maccabi Ashdod, in New Zealand with Mountain Airs, and in Turkey with Pinar Karsiyaka.

Kenny Gabriel renews with Panathinaikos

Kenny Gabriel renews with Panathinaikos. The 28 years old American forward penned his first contract with the Greens in November 2016. Gabriel played 21 games with Panathinaikos for the Basket League Greece, averaging 6.57 points and 3.33 rebounds per game (8 ppg / 4.46 rpg at the regular season). In 2013 Gabriel penned a two years contract with Rethymno. In his first season in Greece he averaged 12.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, finishing first in rebounds and fifth in ranking in the regular season. Gabriel finished the season with 10 double doubles and he was named twice MVP of the day. In the next season Gabriel moved to Turkey for Pinar Karsiyaka, where he won the Turkish Championship in his first season. In the last season Gabriel averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds with Pinar Karsiyaka in Euroleague.

Panathinaikos sign Kenny Gabriel

Panathinaikos sign Kenny Gabriel until the end of the season. The 27 years old American returns to Greece, after three seasons. Gabriel graduated from Auburn, where he played college basketball with the Auburn Tigers. In his last season Gabriel averaged 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Gabriel started his professional career in Israel with Maccabi Ashdod, and continued in Cyprus with AEL, and in New Zealand with Taranaki MA. In 2013 Gabriel penned a two years contract with Rethymno. In his first season in Greece he averaged 12.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, finishing first in rebounds and fifth in ranking in the regular season. Gabriel finished the season with 10 double doubles and he was named twice MVP of the day. In the next season Gabriel moved to Turkey for Pinar Karsiyaka, where he won the Turkish Championship in his first season. In the last season Gabriel averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds with Pinar Karsiyaka in Euroleague.

Kenny Gabriel signed with Pınar Karşıyaka

Kenny Gabriel signed with Pınar Karşıyaka in Turkey. The team will pay 60,000$ to Rethymno Aegean as a transfer fee. Gabriel had a great season in Basket League Greece 2013-2014, in 33 games with Rethymno Aegean he had 12,81 points and 9,35 rebounds per game in average.
Gabriel finished the regular season with 10 double doubles and being named twice MVP of the day.

Rethymno Aegean beat Ilisiakos for Greek League 26th day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and defeated Ilisiakos for Greek Basket League 26th day. Ilisiakos wanted the victory in order to avoid the relegation but with a crucial mistake in the final seconds lost the game and relegated in the second division after five consecutive years in the Greek Basket League. Ilisiakos started the game with a 6-0 run and was leading the score in the first quarter. Rethymno Aegean counter attacked in the second quarter and with a 12-0 run took the lead in score. Rethymno Aegean was keeping the lead in the third and last quarter until the end. Ilisiakos took a small lead and was close to avoid relegation but Courtney Pigram made a crucial turnover and lost the ball. Giannis Kalampokis scored and made the score 63-62. Ilisiakos made another turnover and lost the game which led to the relegation in the second division. For Rethymno Aegean Kenny Gabriel was the top scorer with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Luka Drča had 14 points and 7 rebounds, Callistus Eziukwu had 8 points and 9 rebounds. For Ilisiakos Cheikh Mbodj had 22 points and 17 rebounds but he lost crucial free throws in the last minute also Courtney Pigram had 16 points but he made the crucial turnover in the last minute. Panagiotis Kafkis had 16 points and 7 assists.

Panathinaikos beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek League 25th day

Panathinaikos hosted and beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League 25th day. Panathinaikos was tired and disappointed by its elimination from Euroleague final four. Rethmyno Aegean tried and managed to compete the champions for three quarters and Dimitris Diamantidis had to play and play good in order to win the game. Diamantidis came from the bench and had 23 points and 6 assists in 27 minutes. Antonis Fotsis had 12 points and 8 rebounds, Stephane Lasme had 15 points and 4 rebounds. For Rethmyno Aegean Kenny Gabriel made another double double with 16 points and 15 rebounds but had 4/12 field goals and 6 turnovers. Callistus Eziukwu had 8 points,6 rebounds and Fanis Koumpouras had 11 points, 4 assists but also 5 turnovers. Rethymno's captain Avraam Kallinikidis had 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Nea Kifisia hosted and beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League 23rd day. Nea Kifisia played without Tony Crocker who had a knee surgery earlier this week. The home team with high shot accuracy and 14 more rebounds controlled the game, although Nea Kifisia had double turnovers than Rethymno. For Nea Kifisia Giannis Psathas had 16 points and 6 rebounds, Dimitris Tsaldaris had 20 points and Nikos Liakopoulos had 13 points and 8 assists. For Rethymno Aegean had Luka Drča had 14 points, Kenny Gabriel had 10 points and 5 rebounds, Eziukwu had 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Rethymno Aegean beat KAOD for Greek League 22nd day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and defeated KAOD for Greek Basket League 22nd day. KAOD had won Rethymno Aegean twice in Drama, with the last victory being the first round game, but has never won in Rethymno. The home team was much better than KAOD in the first half when the difference reached 16 points. KAOD reacted in the second half and lowered the difference but couldn't do anything better but to lose by 5 points. Rethymno Aegean won and covered the difference of one point that lost in the first round game. Kenny Gabriel was the top scorer of the game with another double double, 26 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals. Callistus Eziukwu had 8 points, 7 rebounds and Justin Hurtt had 15 points and 5 rebounds. For KAOD J'Covan Brown had 24 points and 4 rebounds but with 1/7 three pointers. Edin Bavčić had 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Aries Trikala beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek League 21st day

Aries Trikala hosted and defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League 21st day. Rethymno Aegean had won the first round game by only two points. Aries Trikala had 9/10 field goals in the first quarter while Rethymno Aegean had 1/7 so the home team was leading the score with 26-14. First half finished with Aries Trikala leading by 12 points and Rethmyno Aegean having poor accuracy in shots, 6/19 field goals and 4/12 three pointers. Rethymno improved in three pointers in the second half but was still poor in field goals. Besides first quarter all the rest were balanced with partial scores: 14-14, 17-17, 18-18, so the first quarter was the crucial quarter of the game. Chris Evans was the top player of the game and finished the game with a double double 25 points, 12 rebounds. Mike Porrini had 2 points but 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Christos Deligiannis had 11 points with 4/5 field gols and 3/3 free throws. For Rethymno Aegean Damir Latovic had 13 points, Derek Wright 11 points and 8 assists. Kenny Gabriel made another double double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, collecting 14 out of 27 defensive rebounds of his team.

Rethymno Aegean beat Apollon Patras for Greek League 18th day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and beat Apollon Patras for Greek Basket League 18th day. Rethymno Aegean not only won Apollon Patras but also covered the 9 points difference of the first game and now has the advantage. Apollon Patras took an early lead but the team of Giorgos Kalafatakis had a great day and won the geme with ease. Kenny Gabriel made his best double double with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Fanis Koumpouras had 8 points,10 assists and Callistus Eziukwu 10 points and 7 rebounds. For Apollon Patras Demarius Bolds had 21 points, Jeremiah Wilson a double double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, Lenny Daniel 7 points and 10 rebounds. For another game Apollon Patras got only 7 points from its Greek players.

Aris beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek League 17th day

Aris beat Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League 17th day. Both teams had their own good periods in a tight game. Rethymno Aegean was leading the score in the first quarter but Aris with good defense on Derek Wright and Justin Hurtt made their team shot 3/14 three pointers. Kenny Gabriel led his team in a counter attack in the third quarter but the game was tight until the end. Eziukwu and Wright missed to score in the end, Aris scored with free throws and won a crucial game before the Cup Final. For Aris Giannis Athinaiou had 16 points, Michalis Pelekanos 10 points and 8 rebounds. For Rethymno Aegean Giannis Kalampokis scored 23 points and Kenny Gabriel 15 points. Callistus Eziukwu made a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Rethymno Aegean defeated Kolossos Rodou for Greek League 15th day

Rethymno Aegean hosted and defeated Kolossos Rodou for Greek Basket League 15th day. With this victory Rethymno reached Kolossos in the League table. Rethmyno Aegean was massive in the first half with 26 points in each quarter. First quarter finished with 16 and second one with 21 points difference for Rethymno. In the third quarter Kolossos lowered the difference to 18 points but the final difference was 19 points. Rethymno bombed Kolossos with 12/27 three pointers while Kolossos was poor in free throws with 21/40. Rethmyno collected 18 more rebounds than Kolossos, 43 against 25. Those stats show why Rethymno Aegean won easily this crucial game. All twelve players of Rethymno Aegean scored at least two points and ten of them collected at least one rebound. Kenny Gabriel made another double double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks! Justin Hurtt was the top scorer of the game with 30 points, 6/9 three pointers. For Kolossos Rodou Bambale Osby had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 fouls drawn. Aggelos Tsamis 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 fouls drawn. Christoforos Stefanidis added 14 points more.

Ikaros Chalkidas hosted and defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League 14th day. First 8 minutes were tight but Ikaros Chalkidas finished the first quarter with an 8-0 run and 10 points difference. That difference didn't change in the rest of the game. The home team was keeping Rethymno in distance and won a crucial game. Both teams were accurate at three pointers, 10/24 for Ikaros Chalkidas and 10/28 for Rethymno Aegean. Ikaros Chalkidas won the game with high accuracy in two pointers, 26/33, while Rethmyno Aegean had the half shots successful, 18/43. Great game from Ivan Aska with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. For Ikaros Chalkidas Dominique Sutton contributed 16 points more, Ryan Richards 15 points and Sotiris Manolopoulos 11 points and 6 rebounds. Ilisiakos defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek League thirteenth day

Ilisiakos hosted and defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League thirteenth day. Rethymno Aegean was better in the first half and finished it with a small lead of 3 points. Ilisiakos counter attacked in the second quarter and finished the half time ahead by 11 points. Second half started and finished like the first half did. Rethymno Aegean dominated the third quarter and took the lead in score again with 54-59. In the last quarter the home team was massive, scoring 32 points and let Rethmyno Aegean score only 13 points. Ilisiakos reversed the score two times and won the game by 14 points. Very tight game with Ilisiakos shooting 42 free throws and scoring 32 of them. Nikos Chatzis had a great game with 20 points, 3 assists and 6 fouls drawn in 18 minutes. DJ Stephens made a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Anderson was the top scorer of Ilisiakos with 29 points, 10/10 free throws, 5/6 two pointers and 3/5 three pointers. For Rethmyno Aegean Derek Wright was the top scored with 22 points, 5/5 free throws, 4/4 two pointers and 3/4 three pointers. Justin Hurtt scored 21 points but had many shots, 7/14 free throws, 4/12 two pointers and 2/5 three pointers. Kenny Gabriel made another double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
