Nikos Chatzis retired

Nikos Chatzis retired. The 39 years old Greek guard announced that he retires as a player and will continue his career in basketball as a coach. In his announcement he highlights the European Under 16 Championship that he won in 1993, and the World Under 19 Championship that he won in 1995.
Chatzis started his career in AEK where he played for ten years in a row (1995-2005) and another two (2007-2009) after playing for a year in Olympiacos and one year in Panionios. In 2009 Chatzis moved to Ilisiakos and his last team was Arkadikos in A2 League. With AEK he had won twice the Greek Championship (2000, 2001) and in 2000 he also won the Saporta Cup. Chatzis played 554 games in the A1 League of Greece and scored 5.200 points, becoming the top scorer of the Greek Basket League in 30th March 2014.

Ilisiakos beat PAOK for Greek League 25th day

Ilisiakos hosted and beat PAOK for Greek Basket League 25th day. Ilisiakos is struggling to avoid relegation and against PAOK made a crucial victory. Panagiotis Kafkis, Nikos Chatzis and Giannis Vavatsikos were the best player of Ilisiakos while DJ Cooper and Giorgos Bogris played in their average performance for PAOK. Great victory for Ilisiakos but maybe too late to avoid relegation.

Nikos Chatzis became the top scorer of the Greek Basket League

Nikos Chatzis became the top scorer of the Greek Basket League. With the 19 points that he scored against Ikaros Chalkidas, Nikos Chatzis passed Angelos Koronios and is now the top scorer of all times of the Greek Basket League. Nikos Chatzis now has 5184 points and will be playing for at least the end of this season, while Angelos Koronios who has retired had 5170 points.

Ilisiakos hosted and defeated Ikaros Chalkidas for Greek Basket League 23rd day. In the crucial game between two teams that fight to avoid relegation Ilisiakos won with a historic game by Nikos Chatzis. The veteran player had 19 points and became the top scorer of all times in the Greek Basket League. Ilisiakos made only 15 fouls against 26 of Ikaros Chalkidas, so the free throws were 22/31 for the home team and 7/8 for the guests. Besides Chatzis, Cheikh Mbodj had 15 points and Stelios Ioannou 17 points and 9 rebounds. For Ilisiakos only 6 players scored with Anthony Roberson having 22 points and Ryan Richards making a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Giannis Gagaloudis had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

Panathinaikos beat Ilisiakos for Greek League 21st day

Panathinaikos hosted Ilisiakos for Greek Basket League 21st day. Panathinaikos was counting 11 victories in 11 games against Ilisiakos, a team that is fighting to avoid relegation. Ilisiakos played without DJ Stephens, a big loss for the team. First quarter was a game between the first and the last team of the league. Without tight defense Panathinaikos had 4/6 three pointers. The game was like a training for Panathinaikos and the coach Fragiskos Alvertis made his debut as coach in the Greek League. Diamantidis and Maciulis didn't play so that they will rest for Euroleague games. With 12/28 three pointers Panathinaikos played open against Ilisiakos that approached to 5 points couple minutes before the end but Nikos Pappas secured the victory for his team. Mike Bramos had 17 points, Antonis Fotsis 11 points and 9 rebounds, Nikos Pappas 16 points. For Ilisiakos Courtney Pigram had 14 points, Cheikh Mbodj 12 points and 7 rebounds, Savvas Tzougarakis 12 points and the veteran Nikos Chatzis 8 points and 7 assists.

Aries Trikala beat Ilisiakos for Greek League 17th day

Aries Trikala hosted and beat Ilisiakos for Greek Basket League 17th day. In a crucial game for each team in order to avoid relegation Aries Trikala won by one point and took an advantage against Ilisiakos. Ilisiakos started the game more focused and was leading the score in the first half. Aries Trikala counter attacked and with Patrick Ewing Junior having a great game took the lead in the third quarter but Ilisiakos balanced the game in the last quarter. The victory went to Aries Trikala in the end with a three pointer from Marios Matalon and free throws of Patrick Ewing Junior. This was the sixth home win for Aries Trikala. Ilisiakos tried but made 26 turnovers in the game. Patrick Ewing Junior finished the game with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 8 fouls drawn. Chris Evans had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. For Ilisiakos DJ Stephens tried his best with a double double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Nikos Chatzis had 14 points. Courtney Pigram scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 turnovers and Jessie Sapp 3 points, 4 assists and 2 steals in their debut in the league.

Olympiacos defeated Ilisiakos for Greek League 15th day

Olympiacos hosted and defeated Ilisiakos for Greek Basket League 15th day. In the first game without its top scorer, Kevin Anderson, Ilisiakos made a suprisingly good game and was leading the game for 21 minutes. Olympiacos had to tried more in a supposingly easy game. For Olympiacos 11 players, all except young Katsivelis scored. For Ilisiakos the veteran Nikos Chatzis scored 22 points and DJ Stephens 6 points with 13 rebounds. Jamario Moon was the top scorer of Olympiacos in his first game in the League.

Ilisiakos defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek League thirteenth day

Ilisiakos hosted and defeated Rethymno Aegean for Greek Basket League thirteenth day. Rethymno Aegean was better in the first half and finished it with a small lead of 3 points. Ilisiakos counter attacked in the second quarter and finished the half time ahead by 11 points. Second half started and finished like the first half did. Rethymno Aegean dominated the third quarter and took the lead in score again with 54-59. In the last quarter the home team was massive, scoring 32 points and let Rethmyno Aegean score only 13 points. Ilisiakos reversed the score two times and won the game by 14 points. Very tight game with Ilisiakos shooting 42 free throws and scoring 32 of them. Nikos Chatzis had a great game with 20 points, 3 assists and 6 fouls drawn in 18 minutes. DJ Stephens made a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Anderson was the top scorer of Ilisiakos with 29 points, 10/10 free throws, 5/6 two pointers and 3/5 three pointers. For Rethmyno Aegean Derek Wright was the top scored with 22 points, 5/5 free throws, 4/4 two pointers and 3/4 three pointers. Justin Hurtt scored 21 points but had many shots, 7/14 free throws, 4/12 two pointers and 2/5 three pointers. Kenny Gabriel made another double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Olympiacos defeats Ilisiakos for Basketball League

Ilisiakos hosted and lost by Olympiacos by 57-78. Olympiacos started the game after two consecutive wins so the first quarter finished with a clear lead of 11 points, 12-23. Ilisiakos balanced the game at second quarter and the half time ended with 25-36. Second half started with a counter attack from Ilisiakos and the difference at the end of third quarter was 7 points, 44-51. In the last quarter Olympiacos managed to keep the difference above 10 points. Olympiacos scored 10 three pointers and left no chances nor hope to Ilisiakos. Final result 57-78. Nikos Chatzis tried with 16 points but was trying alone. For Olympiacos Matt Lojeski scored 21 points, collected 8 rebounds and made just 2 turnovers. Only Papapetrou didn't score for Olympiacos and Spanoulis scored 3 points in 20 minutes.

Apollon Patras wins Ilisiakos for the first day of Greek Basketball League 2013-2014

Apollon Patras hosted and defeated Ilisiakos with 80-65 for the first day of Greek Basketball League 2013-2014. Trepalovac scored the first points of Apollon Patra who ran a 7-0 score before Ilisiakos replied with its own rally at 9-7. First quarter finished with Apollon Patras ahead by 23-16. Apollon scored 4 three points shots in first and had 75% 2-points shots accuracy. Half-time found the host team ahead by 12 points, 47-35. Apollon had 100% accuracy in free throws, 61% in two points shots and 46% in three points shots, which accuracy made the difference since most statistics were balanced. Quarters' scores 26-16, 47-35, 63-49, 80-65.

Nikos Chatzis renews contract with Ilisiakos

Nikos Chatzis, 37 shooting guard, renewed his contract with Ilisiakos for two more years. Chatzis played 26 games in last season with Ilisiakos, scoring 7,2 per game in 15,8 minutes average, helped his team to avoid relegation.
The shooting guard from Kalamata holds the record for the most appearances in Greek Basketball League, counting 529 games since 1995.
