Fenerbahce beat Panathinaikos for Euroleague Top 16 Round One

Fenerbahce hosted and beat Panathinaikos for Euroleague 2015-2016 Top 16 Round One. Panathinaikos was not good at the first quarter, then managed to balance the game in the second quarter but then Diamantidis got a light injury and left the game. Without Diamantidis Panathinaikos seemed to lack that something that could help the team steal the game at the end.

Faros - PAOK Cup semi final referee call

Faros won PAOK for the Greek Cup semi finals but PAOK complains for the last crucial call of the referees. Papamakarios has the ball and Schortsianitis plays defense on him, blocking the shot with his hands. The referees called it a foul, PAOK complained for travelling, who was right?

Olympiacos signed Darius Johnson Odom

Olympiacos signed Darius Johnson Odom. The 26 years old American guard parted ways with Trabzonspor and will continue the season in Greece and Euroleague with Olympiacos. Johnson-Odom was selected 55th overall in the 2012 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks, but moved to Los Angeles Lakers and played mainly for the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the NBA D-League.
In 2013 he played some games for Spartak St. Petersburg in Russia and for Sichuan Blue Whales in China. In 2014 he played some games for Springfield Armor and signed a 10 days contract with  Philadelphia 76ers but he did not play. His first full season was 2014-2015 with Pallacanestro Cantù and he started this season in Turkey with Trabzonspor. In Turkey he averaged 11.2 points and 3.5 assists and in Eurocup he averaged 7.6 points. Odom played two games against Aris for Eurocup, scoring 11 points in the home win and 13 points in the road defeat.

Schortsianitis continues with PAOK

Schortsianitis continues with PAOK. The 30 years old center started the season in Serbia for Red Star and came to PAOK in November with a two months unpaid contract. There was an option for mutual renewal after the 31st of December and since PAOK qualified for Eurocup Top 32 and Sofo is happy, the player continues until the end of the season.

AEK released Malcolm Armstead

AEK released Malcolm Armstead. The 26 years old American played only three games with AEK and after the addition of DJ Cooper was not into the team's planning. Armstead continues in Turkey with Büyükşehir Belediyespor.

Faros Keratsiniou made the best start ever in A2 League!

Faros Keratsiniou made the best start ever in A2 League! With 11 wins in 11 games Faros broke Dafni's record from 1998, when the team had 10 wins in a row before being defeated by Makedonikos.
The next record for Faros is the winning strike, with KAOD having 19 wins in a row in the 2010/2011 season.

Stefanos Dedas is Gaziantep's new head coach

Stefanos Dedas is Gaziantep's new head coach. The Greek coach was the assistant of Jure Zdovc, but the Slovenian coach left Gaziantep for AEK and Dedas did not follow him since he had an offer from Gaziantep to become the head coach.

AEK agreed terms with Jurij Zdovc

AEK agreed terms with Jurij (Jure) Zdovc. The 49 years old Slovenian is the new coach of AEK, replacing Dragan Sakota. Zdovc signed a 2.5 years contract (1.5 + 1) until the summer of 2018.
Zdovc has played for Iraklis and Panionios in Greece, and was the coach of Iraklis in 2005-2006 season.

As a player he has won one Euroleague, two French Championships, two Slovenian Championships, three Slovenian Cups.
As a coach he has won one Croatian and three Slovenian Cups, and one Slovenian and one Bosnian Championships. In 2012 he was named coach of the year for the Eurocup with Spartak St. Petersburg. Before AEK Zdovc was the head coach of Gaziantep in Turkey, with Stefanos Dedas being his assistant coach. Dedas did not follow Zdovc in AEK, as he is now the head coach of Gaziantep.

Doukas signed Alexis Kyritsis

Doukas signed Alexis Kyritsis. The 33 years old Greek guard will play for his third team in A2 League, after Papagos and Doxa Lefkadas. Kyritsis started his career from Papagos, and has also played for Aris, Marousi, AEK, PAOK, Kavala, Ilisiakos, Panathinaikos, Ikaros Kallitheas, Panionios in the Basket League Greece. He has played in Eurocup and in Euroleague, and had won the Greek Cup twice, the first with Aris in 2004 and the second with Panathinaikos in 2012.

Sotiris Manolopoulos replaced Dragan Sakota in AEK

AEK appointed Sotiris Manolopoulos as new coach. The team decided to release Dragan Sakota from the head coach position and the experienced Serbian is now the team's General Manager. Sotiris Manolopoulos joined AEK two months ago and is now the head coach of the team.

Kifisia signed Muhammad El-Amin

Kifisia signed Muhammad El-Amin. The 28 years old American returns to Greece after a very good season with Apollon Patras, when he was the fifth in points scored and third in fouls won in the first round of Basket League 2014-2015. Against Kifisia El-Amin was the top scorer of Apollon with 22 points. El-Amin started this season in Italy for Reggia JuveCaserta.


Rethymno signed Rashad Madden

Rethymno signed Rashad Madden. After rumours about the deal, the team officially announced that Madden replaced Relphorde until the end of the season.

Nikos Chatzis retired

Nikos Chatzis retired. The 39 years old Greek guard announced that he retires as a player and will continue his career in basketball as a coach. In his announcement he highlights the European Under 16 Championship that he won in 1993, and the World Under 19 Championship that he won in 1995.
Chatzis started his career in AEK where he played for ten years in a row (1995-2005) and another two (2007-2009) after playing for a year in Olympiacos and one year in Panionios. In 2009 Chatzis moved to Ilisiakos and his last team was Arkadikos in A2 League. With AEK he had won twice the Greek Championship (2000, 2001) and in 2000 he also won the Saporta Cup. Chatzis played 554 games in the A1 League of Greece and scored 5.200 points, becoming the top scorer of the Greek Basket League in 30th March 2014.

Aris beat Banvit, covering the points difference of the fifth day game, and qualified in the first place of its group.
PAOK beat Lietuvos in Rytas, like it had done in Thessaloniki for the fifth day game, and qualified to the Top 32 round.
AEK beat Neptunas but this was not enough to qualify to the next round, but the team exited Eurocup 2015-2016 with another home win.

Apollon Patras eyes Karamo Jawara

Apollon Patras eyes Karamo Jawara. The 24 years old Norwegian forward graduated from North Carolina Central where he played three years in the NCAA. Jawara started this season in Romania with U Banca Transilvania Cluj where he averages 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 8 games. He will replace the Serbian Bosnian Dejan Cup who had 1+6 months contract but did not satisfied the team with his performance.

Lavrio signed Demarius Bolds

Lavrio Demarius Bolds. The 31 years old American guard returns to Greece after 2013-2014 season when he played for Apollon Patras and was the top in steals in the league, while he was the 5th in ranking, 2nd in points scored and 2nd in steals in the first round. Bolds then played in Al Rayyan Doha of Qatar, where he was team mate with Patrick Ewing, and he started this season in Turkey with Final Spor Genclik. Bolds graduated from Missouri Western and he has also played in England for London Lions and in Czech Republic for BC Kolin.

Rethymno eyes Rashad Madden

Rethymno's couch Skourtopoulos is not happy with the performance of Marcus Relphorde and the team is already eyeing Rashad Madden. The 23 years old American guard graduated from Arkansas where he played four years in the NCAA with the  Arkansas Razorbacks. Madden started his professional career in Poland with Śląsk Wrocław where he averaged 9.7, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 10 games for the domestic league and 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 6 games in FIBA Europe Cup.

Olympiacos agreed terms with Shawn James

It is official Olympiacos agreed terms with Shawn James. The Greek team paid the 20.000 euros fee for the release of James from Bilbao and has added injury terms on his new contract. James will replace Patrick Young and has penned a contract until the end of the season.
The 32 years old American center graduated from Northeastern University with the 9th in the all time ranking for blocks and five triple doubles in the NCAA. He went undrafted in the NBA Draft 2008 and then started his professional career in Israel for Bnei Hasharon. After three years he moved the Israeli Champions Maccabi Tel Aviv and played in Euroleague. In the summer of 2014 he moved to Italy for Emporio Armani Milano and after one year he moved to Spain for Bilbao Basket where he started this season.

Kifisia, Papatheodorou and referees got penalties for the game against Apollon

Coach Elias Papatheodorou got a penalty of one game day plus 2.750 euros fine for his behaviour in the game of Kifisia against Apollon Patras of the eight day of Basket League Greece 2015-2016. For the same reason the team of Kifisia got a 3.300 fine. The three referees of the game Karakatsounis, Deslis and Poursanidis were not included in the forthcoming games referee list due to their bad performance in the same game.

Papagos unhappy with Karagiannis

The coach Nikos Karagiannis left Papagos for Peristeri and his previous team published an ironic announcement about the coach. Papagos claims that the coach was unemployed when they trust him and offered him a contract but after only 22 days he left the club for personal reasons. When the board asked him if he had agreed with another club he denied it but days after he agreed terms with Peristeri.

Peristeri and Papamarkos parted ways

Peristeri and Kostas Papamarkos parted ways. The Greek coach was blamed for the two consecutive defeats and the two sides agreed on a mutual contract release after almost a season. The new coach of Peristeri is Nikos Karagiannis who left Papagos.

DJ Cooper apologized and continues with AEK

DJ Cooper apologized and continues with AEK. The American Bosnian came to Athens for AEK less than a month ago but the team called the player to apologize for disciplinary issues. There were rumours about doping test but the team made it clear that only official announcements are valid. Cooper apologized and continues with AEK for the rest of the season.

Kavala signed Tyler Laser

Kavala signed Tyler Laser. The 27 years old American point guard graduated from Eastern Illinois, where he played four years in the NCAA. Laser started his professional career in Sweden with Solna and then moved to Cyprus where he played for ENAD, APOEL Nicosia and AEK Larnaca. He has also played in Bulgaria for Tundja Yambol and Levski Sofia.

AEK lost by Nizhny but did not lose the points' difference of the third day win. Mavrokefalidis did not play but Mavroeidis had a great game and made a double double, like Berzins and Khvostov did for Nizhny.
Aris beat Unics Kazan again, like the Greek team did in Russia. Aris collected only 23 rebounds, 1 more than Parakhouski and Kaimakoglou together, but did only 6 turnovers! Langford had a lot of pressure with 12 fouls won.
PAOK lost easily by Besiktas in Thessaloniki but beat them in Turkey in over time with a winning shot by William Hatcher.
